Gym Trainers

general information

Pokémon gyms are places for trainers to test their strength and earn badges by proving themselves in battle against their resident gym leaders. However, aside from the gym leaders themselves, these organizations also employ other individuals.

“Gym trainers” aid in the day-to-day maintenance of the gym and have varying duties depending on where they work. For instance, those employed at the Hibiscus Gym might be trained pokémon rehabilitators, while those working at Ironwood Gym might be up-and-coming entertainers. But more than this, the gym trainers also offer a sort of “warm-up” match for trainers who have come to challenge for a badge.

As understudies for the leader, all gym trainers raise pokémon that reflect the gym's specialties. Hibiscus favors water, ice, and flying types. Plumeria favors rock, grass, and bug types. Hinoki favors fire, psychic, and dark types. Ironwood favors electric, steel, and normal types. Wisteria favors dragon, fairy, and ghost types.

playing a gym trainer

• Battling a gym trainer prior to challenging the leader is completely optional, and these matches may be used as experience towards a tier boost the same way any other battle would be.

• Unlike gym leaders, gym trainers battle using their personal teams. Their pokémon can gain experience toward tier boosts like any other pokémon, whereas gym leader pokémon remain static over time.

• Gym trainers may use up to three pokémon during regulation matches. They may use any combination of tiers, the only restriction being that Diamond Tier pokémon are off-limits for use in gym battles.

• While gym trainers may certainly own pokémon outside their respective specialty, only the corresponding types may be used in gym battles.

• Anyone may play a gym trainer character! Just make it clear in your application so that your character's name will get listed on the Eden League page.
