Rules & FAQ

site rules

Basic guidelines. Most standard role-playing rules apply here: god-moding and power-playing are prohibited. For those not familiar with the terminology, check out this article for an explanation.

Writing standards. In-character posts should be in third-person and past-tense, and members are expected to practice correct spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation to the best of their abilities. We don’t enforce a word-count minimum for posts; the main thing to remember is quality over quantity.

Original characters. Although we support face claims, we expect players to develop their own, original character concepts. This means no “expies” – i.e. characters from other media exported into the game setting with little to no change to their personality and background.

Time flow. Paradise utilizes liquid time. This means that players can have as many in-character threads as they like, in as many areas as they like, as long as everything makes sense chronologically. With that in mind, you can assume the months/seasons pass in accordance with real life (Eden is located in the Northern Hemisphere).

Adult content. Swearing and violence are permitted in-character, but violence should not extend beyond the “mild” category. Blood is fine; an excessive amount of gore is not. Also, any situations that become sexual in nature should “fade to black” at the appropriate time.

Multiple characters. Players are allowed as many characters as they wish with no waiting period in-between. However, we do suggest that you only take on as many as you can handle. We would much rather you dedicate yourself to a small number of active characters engaged in the the roleplay than to see you create a hoard of characters who see little play individually.

Activity policy. To keep a character from being archived, players only need to be active once every 30 days. Activity is considered any contribution to the site: an IC post, plotting, chatting in the OOC area, et cetera. If an account remains inactive for 30 days or longer, the character’s trainer profile will be archived. To be have an inactive profile restored, simply message the admin.

Fair play. All members are expected to abide by the rules of the site. Players are welcome to help others with any accidental mistakes by correcting them in a polite and helpful manner. However, if you witness inflammatory behavior of any kind, please notify the admin.

frequently asked questions

Q. Can I play a pokémon character?
A. Players cannot RP stand-alone pokémon characters. You can, however, use your human character’s pokémon as a sort of “supporting cast.” Pokémon are all able to communicate with one another, so feel free to allow your character’s pokémon to interact with others through dialogue. Just keep in mind that humans cannot understand their language!

Q. Do the regions of Orre, Fiore, Almia, and Oblivia exist in the Paradise universe?
A. Regions from the various spin-off games are not included in our Paradise “canon.” Only the regions from the main series are recognized.

Q. How are multiple characters handled?
A. Paradise is an account-per-character site. However, multiple accounts can be linked to a “parent account” using Jcink’s sub-account system. You can manage your linked accounts here.

Q. Is there a tagbox or other way to let my RP know that I’ve replied to our thread?
A. We use Jcink’s alert system for tagging. If you want to tag another player, just include @[Firstname Lastname] in your post. The player will then receive a notification in the Alerts section of their navigation bar. You can configure your alert settings here.

Q. This place seems familiar! Was it somewhere before Jcink?
A. Paradise is actually the spiritual successor to Destiny, a pokémon RP that I (Jade) ran from 2005 to 2012! The setting has changed, but the rules, game mechanics, and overall atmosphere are pretty much the same. We started out on Avidgamers, and when AG crashed, we moved to Acornrack. We were still around when Acornrack turned into Spleafnet, but when Spleafnet died, we had only a brief run on Invisionfree. In the summer of 2014, I decided to start a new site here on Jcink. Thus, Paradise was born!
