Nox stood and dusted himself off as Karjan spoke. He glanced to where Karjan indicated and was pretty sure he could see a small raised platform where a battle could take place without worrying too much about the sand. "Perfect, lead the way." He said, motioning for Karjan to take the lead, in part because it gave him a chance to admire his lover as he walked across the beach.

Once they'd reached the battlefield, Karjan made the first move, calling out his Spearow. "A flying type? You do know the majority of my least experienced pokemon are rock type right?" He questioned, running over his options in his head. He could be nice and choose a more neutral match up by sending in Dall or Mikleo. Or he could take advantage of the fact most of his pokemon would be extra effective against flying type pokemon. "I'll make you a deal. Whoever wins this battle gets to choose what we do next." He stated, though he didn't wait for an answer before grabbing a pokeball and giving it a little toss. "Alright Eira, start things off with Powder Snow." The Amaura gave a light cry before sending a blast of powdery snow at her opponent. At the same time, small hailstones began to fall on the battlefield, causing damage to anything that wasn't an ice type.

Karjan shrugged at Nox's words, and said, "Experience is still experience. Esato doesn't mind the challenge, right?" He directed the question at the spearow, who flared her wings and shrieked in agreement. "Hah, alright then," Karjan gave a small laugh at Nox's offered deal, already knowing that it was stacked against him. Not that he minded.

Karjan smiled at the sight of the Amaura that Nox called out, even though he knew that it put Esato in an even worse position. There were very few options he had that could actually deal decent damage to the dual-type pokemon she was now facing.

Esato tucked her head under a wing, shivering in the face of the powder snow. Frost edged her feathers, and she chattered her displeasure as bits of ice fell around her with every movement.

"Pay her back, Esato. Ominous Wind."

With a harsh noise, Esato flared her wings and flapped hard, sending a gust of violet-edged wind coiling towards the amaura. Bits of power split off from the gust and lingered in her feathers afterwards, giving her a menacing appearance as the secondary effect took hold.

Nox only shrugged at Karjan's comment. Sure, experience was experience but it just made more sense to not put yourself at a disadvantage. Karjan was smarter than that. Still, it wasn't as if this was a major battle or anything so it really didn't matter in the end. Karjan's fond smile earned the man a smile from Nox as well. Of course any trainer would be fond of seeing the offspring of their own pokemon. Nox took every opportunity he could to dote on Nocturnal (much to Noire and Karjan's amusement he was sure!). He briefly wondered if Karjan would use the young Absol during their battle, being drawn back to reality when Karjan ordered Esato to retaliate for the icy attack she'd just endured.

Eira cried out as the ghostly wind struck her and shook her head to clear it. She glared at the Spearow, noting that it seemed surrounded in some sort of weird energy. "Two can play at that game, Ruin. Hit back with Ancient Power." The Amaura nodded and summoned fist sized stones that levitated around her surrounded by some manner of ancient energy. With a cry, she sent them flying at her opponent, grinning when she felt that same ancient energy surround her and give her a little extra boost.
