While Nox considered himself a dark type specialist, he knew he couldn't relay only on dark type pokemon as a ranger. And his team currently lacked a flying type pokemon that he could rely on in battles as well as for aerial surveillance. Alisha was fine just flying overhead and keeping a lookout but she was not a very good battler and that was a problem. And there were just not many flying types that interested him all that much. But he had gotten to know Karjan's Noibat during their time together and the little dragon pokemon seemed like a perfect fit for Nox's team. The problem was finding one. Nox did not consider himself any sort of veteran trainer or anywhere near skilled enough to brave Victory Road. But that was where Noibat lived. He could have one bred but tracking down a breeding who had Noibat available would take just as long as finding one himself...perhaps even longer.

After much self-doubt and internal debating, Nox decided to venture into Victory Road. He knew if he ran into a strong pokemon he might be in trouble but he hoped that his team would be able to overcome anything they ran into. He trusted Noire and Sorey to keep him safe, the pair had rarely left his side since he'd been shot and were hyper vigilant of potential dangers. Noire walked ahead of him, senses tuned to not only the dangers of wild pokemon or people. but to the small tremors and drafts of air that might indicate a potential collapse of a tunnel or other such danger. Sorey was at his side, a ribbon wrapped firmly around his wrist. Nox's free hand held a flashlight that illuminated the tunnels ahead of them. Hopefully they found what they were looking for sooner rather than later.

Ahh, yes... sleep. My most favorite thing to do. It is relaxing, restoring... allows time for reflection. It really is the best... Oh! What was that? Her eyes shot open. A pebble tumbled down the cave wall and onto the ground. Just a pebble. A mere pebble. Hah! Why worry? I have chosen one of the deepest, darkest corners of the cave to rest. No one will disturb me here. Goodness no.

Another sound echoed down the passageway. Irritation crept its way over her, most likely escalated from her lack of sleep. Her eyes squinted open. Really? What minuscule creature dares to wander into my corner of the cave? she wondered. Her eyes pierced through the darkness as easily as a hot knife through butter. If anyone, or anything, was approaching, she would see it.

Sure enough, a creature rounded the corner and turned her way. It was not minuscule by any means, and anxiety overcame her. It was a human, standing tall and dark. A bright, pink-colored pokémon followed closely by its side. Oh no. She was in trouble. The human had one of those devices that somehow lit up dark spaces. He was sure to see her hanging from the cave ceiling at any moment.

I just wanted to sleep. Is that so much to ask for? She needed to act quickly. Preemptively, she spread her wings and let out threatening, high-pitched clicking sounds. If she was lucky, the sound would scare of the human or at least warn him not to come any closer. She wanted nothing to do with him. All she wanted was to relax in peace.

Nox wasn't sure how long he'd been walking through the dark tunnels or how deep he'd gone into the caves of Victory Road. He was certain he'd have to rely on Noire and Sorey to guide them back out to safely. They exited the tunnel they had been following for awhile and came into a larger cavern, the sort where a wild pokemon might make it's home. He paused, sweeping the beam from his flashlight over the area. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, though he knew any sort of large rock might be part of an Onix or that Zubat and Noibat might be nesting toward the ceiling. He refrained from shining his light upward (though if he hoped to find a Noibat he might have to consider it, they wouldn't be on the ground, after all) for fear of disturbing a 'swarm' of pokemon that might attack.

That, of course, was a big mistake. Just as he was about to continue on, something moved in the darkness. Whatever it was sounded much larger than a Noibat and the high-pitched clicks sent a shiver down his back. He shifted the beam of light upward and it illuminated a form hanging up near the top of the cavern. It took him a second to identify the creature as a Noivern; the evolved form of a Noibat. He half considered backing off and leaving it be but that would defeat the purpose of trekking through the cave in the first place. Sure, he'd hoped to find a Noibat for the simple purpose of making sure it behaved respectably when it evolved but, though training a stronger pokemon would be difficult, it wouldn't be impossible to do.

Noire was between him and the Noivern, ready to attack in defense of her boy if the wild pokemon tried anything. "Noire stand down. Let Sorey handle this one." The Absol didn't look impressed but she backed off, retrating to Nox's side as the Sylveon stepped forward and took her place. "Sorey, start off with Misty Terrain." Since the Noivern hadn't attacked, Nox didn't want to make the first move. Misty Terrain would let the Noivern know he was ready to defend himself if he had to but it wouldn't necessarily be overly hostile. The Sylveon gave a little chirp and a pink mist seeped into the area, swirling around the Sylveon and his opponent.

Sorey used Misty Terrain!

The high pitched sounds were ear piercing, but did not scare off the intruder. The human and his pokémon stood their ground, although they did not approach any further. The man's voice, low and stern, echoed through the tunnel, and his pokémon reacted appropriately to his demands. Noivern eyed them, still annoyed but somewhat curious as well. The light pink-colored pokémon stepped forward, and in an instant a light white mist filled the cave, lightly coating the walls and floor around them.

Humph, Noivern laughed to herself. Whatever its purpose was, she chose not to concern herself with it. However, she needed to make her move now if she wanted to get in the first attack. The trio was clearly not planning to back down or leave her alone. If they wanted a fight, they would get one. Closing her eyes, she chose to focus on the darkness of the cave and the energy inside it. Focusing that energy into form, and without leaving the comfort of the cave ceiling, she released a long beam of purple and red light at the three of them.

The wild Noivern used Dragon Pulse!

The Noivern didn't seem concerned about the mist and, really, there was nothing to be concerned about. It would prevent Sorey from being confused, put to sleep or poisoned for a time and would reduce the amount of damage dragon type moves did. But since Sorey was a Sylveon and therefore a fairy type, dragon type attacks wouldn't do anything to him anyway. Still, it had been the first move Nox had thought of that would be enough to show they weren't backing down but that also wouldn't hurt the Noivern if it chose not to battle them. There was no sense in attacking a friendly pokemon, after all.

This one, however, was not friendly. And that was the reason he'd had Sorey take Noire's place. The Noivern probably hadn't encountered many, if any, fairy type pokemon before. The Dragon Pulse didn't worry him. Sorey didn't move as the attack came at him, he met the Noivern's unhappy gaze with a look of calm. The beam of energy rushed at him and hit it's mark dead on. But the only effect it had on the Sylveon was equal to that of a strong wind, buffeting his ears and ribbons around but not causing any pain or much of anything really. Once the attack died down, Sorey shook himself and gave the Noivern a smile and a chirp. "Guess that means we're battling. Alright then, use Fairy Wind." Sorey had stronger attacks, like Dazzling Gleam, but Nox didn't want to risk knocking the Noivern out rather than being able to capture it. The Sylveon nodded pulled his feelers together near his face, and the air around them started to glow light blue. After a moment, Sorey spread them again and sent a strong gust of sparkling wind at the Noivern.

Hahaha! She laughed to herself. The dark energy she expelled forward pierced through the air and hit the Sylveon straight on. That's right, little missy. Don't come any closer or I'll do it again, she said, scowling at her opponent. Her voice echoed through the tunnel as a series of high-pitched clicking sounds. That should show them. She was wasn't messing around, she was tired and wanted to sleep and she wasn't about to let anyone get in her way.

The dark energy cleared, and behind it stood a completely calm, unbothered Sylveon. Huh? she cocked her head to the side, confused. What type of creature was this? She hadn't come across anything that didn't immediately succumb to her dragon pulse. That's odd, she thought, perhaps I underestimated the human and his pokémon. She glared at them and watched as the air in front of the Sylveon began to glow a light shade of pink. Hmm, it appears she is going to attack. A battle it is. Spreading her wings, she stretched them out real wide before bending her knees and kicking off the ceiling.

The cool, colored wind blew towards her, chilling her body as she spun right-side up to face her opponent. A strange, magical sensation coursed over her body, and not in a good way. It hurt. She clenched her fangs in agony, choosing to keep any sort of cry of pain to herself. Her wings continued to carry her in place, and now it was her turn again. Feeling a playful urge to continue the manipulation of the air around them, her next move was an easy choice. With a few powerful flaps of her wings, a strong wind began to cycle in front of her. It picked up speed and strength, and once it had reached it's maximum she forced it forward, sending hurricane-like winds at her enemies.

Noivern used Hurricane!

At the word 'missy' Sorey pinned his ears back and flashed the Noivern a dark look. "I'm a BOY!" He snapped back, not at all concerned that the Noivern had threatened to attack him again. That first one hadn't hurt at all so he was perfectly capable of taking anything else the Noivern could dish out. He watched with narrowed eyes as the Noivern took flight from her perch and allowed himself a satisfied smirk at the look of pain that she tried to hide.

Sorey narrowed his eyes as the Noivern began to flap her wings, stirring up a wind that was much stronger than Sorey's Fairy Wind had been. The Sylveon braced himself, crouching low to the ground to keep from being blown off his paws as the wind grew stronger and rushed toward him. Despite his best efforts, the force of the wind picked him up and tossed him around like a toy before it died off, dropping him unceremoniously to the ground. Picking himself up, Sorey shook any lingering dizziness from his head and sought out his opponent; having lost track of her in the midst of the attack. "Sorey, use Swift." Nox's voice cut into his search and he gave an affirmative chirp. Swift would find it's mark no matter what. With a swing of his ribbons, the Sylveon sent a spray of pink tinged stars into the air toward the Noivern.

Her expression flashed a sign of shock when her opponent stated it was a boy. Noivern hadn't even considered the possibility that this bright pink and white pokémon could be male. She honestly didn't mean to insult her- er... him. Living deep inside this cave limited her exposure to the strange unusual pokémon from outside. A very tiny part of her wanted to apologize to him, but what was the point? They were fighting right now, not making friends. Humph. She chose to proceed with her attack anyway.

The winds formulated by the strength of her wings were strong enough to pick the Sylveon right off the ground. He landed with a thud. Hah! she thought, her chin up and her chest puffed. The little cat-like creature wasn't about to give up, though. After a few quick words from his trainer, he fired back with a type of ranged attack. Several light-pink stars flew across the cave, hitting Noivern directly in the chest. The force knocked her backwards into the cave wall, hitting the rocks hard. With a loud, "Oomph" she slid from the cave wall to the floor, landing with a thud.

It hurt. A lot. The same unusual sensation came over her. Whichever element these attacks were clearly provided an advantage. She was dramatically weakened already. Her wings trembled as she lifted herself up from her belly. Her head felt heavy, her muscles weak. She wasn't sure she could take another hit like that, so whatever she needed to do, she needed to do it now.

Ugh, boy or not, how dare you disturb me! she squealed. Letting the anger drive her back to her feet, Noivern glared at her opponent and planned her next attack. She kicked off the ground, shooting herself forward rather than back into the air. Tucking her wings in against her body for more speed, she shot forward with her jaw wide open, prepared to take as big of a bite of her opponent as she could.

Noivern used Super Fang!

Swift found it's mark and the Noivern hit the ground with a thud. In the beam of his flashlight, Nox could see that the creature was trembling. She was weak, but was she weak enough to capture? He wasn't sure and he hesitated before withdrawing a Dusk Ball from his bag. He wasn't sure how but they were supposed to work better in dark places like caves or at night. Nox had bought some knowing he was venturing into the caves of Victory Road and figured every advantage he could get would be a good thing.

He waited just a bit too long to react and the Noivern rose to her feet and launched an attack at Sorey. "Sorey dodge!" The command was quick and sharp and the Sylveon reacted on instinct. The Noivern's jaws closed on empty air as the Sylveon disappeared, burrowing into the dirt with remarkable speed. It wasn't quite what Nox had in mind as Dig wouldn't do anything to the Noivern but it had gotten Sorey out of danger. Hoping the Sylveon's disappearance would be a momentary distraction, Nox raised his arm and threw the Dusk Ball at the Noivern.

A wide flap of her wings helped force her body forward as she dove at her opponent. She was prepared to clamp down with her teeth as hard as she possibly could once she made contact. What she wasn't prepared for however, was her opponent somehow vanishing into the ground beneath them. Within seconds, the pink pokémon buried into the cave floor, and Noivern hit the ground with a thud. Her body tumbled forward until her wings spread out wide to stop herself.

Now flat on her stomach and head spinning from the rolling, thoughts of surrender began to force their way into her mind. Perhaps she had picked a fight she couldn't win after all. This pink pokémon, despite its soft and loving appearance, was quite strong. In fact, it has a wide variety of attacks that were rather impressive. A part of her felt bad for confusing him for a girl, but she was sure it wasn't the first time, nor would it be the last. As her dizziness began to settle, she let out a deep sigh.

Surely, her opponent would burst forth from the ground at any moment. She could easily avoid the attack with a few good flaps of her wings, but lifting herself up from the ground was proving to be quite difficult at the moment. Then, before she could decide what she wanted to do, the human threw a pokéball at her. Ugh, not this again... she thought, right before it clinked against her head and sucked her inside.

She had been inside these contraptions before. Twice, actually. On two separate occasions humans had wandered into the various corners of the cave she was trying to sleep in. When she met the first one, she approached it curiously and innocently. Thinking they could be friends, she tried to converse with the human. Instead, she accidentally frightened it, and in the panic it threw a pokéball at her. She escaped it easily, and flew off into the darkness of the cave. She tried to be friendly with the second human as well, only that encounter turned into a battle once the human ordered their pokémon to attack her.

She wasn't about to make the same mistake again with this human. She took the offensive this time, which seemed to back-fire even worse. As darkness surrounded her, she wondered if maybe she should just let it happen. There was a reason these humans continuously tried to capture her, right? Maybe it wasn't a bad thing. Maybe they wanted to be friends with her and this was the only way they knew how? They obviously wanted to take her with them, perhaps they didn't mean her any harm after all.

Deciding to take a chance this time, she took in a deep breath and relaxed.

1... 2... click!

Congratulations!
The wild Noivern has been captured!
