Hudson and his team had been training nonstop for the past week, and at this point, they were exhausted. They had been doing an assortment of things; target practice, physical exercise, and battling against other trainers. Hudson's legs were so sore from so much running that he struggled to even walk down from his room to the beach. It was time for a break. And what better way to relax and unwind than a day at the beach? It was relatively early in the morning, so most of the tourists were still asleep or fighting off hangovers in the darkness of their suites, so the beach was mostly empty. Occasionally someone in running gear would jog past where Hudson was sitting in the sand, but other than that, he and his pokemon were alone.

Ophelia http://i.imgur.com/3GWps2U.png, Simon http://i.imgur.com/WNpEgf9.png, and Waverly http://i.imgur.com/3GWps2U.png were all out of their pokeballs at the moment. Bobbing in the gentle waves of the low tide. All three of the water types were silent, simply enjoying the warm water and the soft glow of the morning sun. The scene was a perfect example of peace and tranquility. It would be a shame if a wild pokemon decided to ruin that for everyone.

Left behind by the receding tide, a lone Staryu lay on the soft, wet sand of the beach. The golden rays of the morning sun warmed its body, and the sea breeze caressed it gently. For a long while it was content to lie there in the small star-shaped depression it made in the sand.

Until it got a little too bored.

Its red core glowed as it let loose a stream of bubbles that shot high into the sky before falling back onto the ground like some kind if fountain. Ooooh... this was fun. Once again it fired another stream of bubbles, but this time it followed up with a brilliant blast of light that burst the bubbles. The resultant fine mist of water caught the stream of light and scattered it, creating an impromptu prismatic light show.

That was beautiful, but the Staryu knew that it could do better. Gathering all its power, it prepared to launch as much water as it could. With a burst of red light from its core, a tremendous fountain of water burst forth, momentarily throwing off its balance and causing the water to spray off to one side...

... towards a human and his Pokémon.

Jumping to an upright position, the Staryu watched them carefully. Did it inadvertently anger them? Slowly it backed away, hoping not to draw any attention to itself before it could slip away silently into the sea.

Needless to say, Hudson and his pokemon were taken off guard by the sudden blast of cold water. The torrent left Hudson drenched, irritated, and his pokemon very pissed off. Ophelia, his goldeen, was definitely the least level-headed and the most angry of them all. She let out a sharp cry of rage, whipping her body around in the water to see who dared to mess with her. Waverly and Simon were also fairly upset, but were much less agrravated than Ophelia. Simon simply shook his neck, allowing the water to fly off his body in little droplets. Waverly looked around slowly, and it was her that spotted the one who must've fired the water onto them.

"Over there! Over there!" She shouted, hopping up and down in the water and pointing one of her appendages at him accusingly. "It was him!"

Once Hudson saw that it was a staryu, he got very excited. He had always wanted to catch the star shaped pokemon. They were beautiful, powerful, and most importantly, water types! He grabbed his bag, deciding that he wanted to use one of his other pokemon to catch the staryu, but before he could do anything else Ophelia let out a battle cry and leaped up into the air.

Hudson openned his mouth to protest, but chose not to say anything instead. Once that fish wanted to pick a fight, there was little he could do to stop her. Ophelia fired off a supersonic, emitting powerful sound-waves of varying frequencies towards the staryu. She would make sure that starfish would regret pissing her off.

Uh oh…

Too late. One of the trainer's Pokémon, a Corsola, was pointing an accusatory appendage at the guilty Staryu and directing everyone's attention to it. It turned and attempted to flee, but a disorienting blast of supersonic sound waves caught it squarely. The high-pitched noise raked its sensory organs, causing it to shudder involuntarily and stop dead in its tracks.

With sheer willpower it temporarily shrugged off the effects of the sonic assault, and spun around to face its opponent. It was a Goldeen, a fellow water Pokémon and not some clumsy landlubber. Its water-based attacks would be ineffective, but it still had other options. The red core at the centre of its body flashed with an ominous crimson light, and tendrils of psychic energy materialised around the Goldeen, threatening to grab and constrict her.

Staryu is confused! (turn 1)

Staryu used PSYCHIC!

Ophelia, high up in the air, was unable to dodge the incoming psychic attack. The move ensnared her, gripping her tightly and causing her to cry out in pain. In held her up in the air for a moment, before forcefully slamming her into the ground. Hudson, Simon and Waverly all winced when they heard her body smack against the sand. Ophelia groaned in pain, weakly trying to use her fins to roll herself back into the water.

"How DARE you?!" She screamed out as she managed to get herself into the waves that were gently lapping against the edge of the sand. "You're going to pay for this!" Ophelia was pissed, all she wanted to do was have a nice, relaxing morning, but instead this starfish had decided to mess with her, and then attack her so cruelly when she just wanted a little revenge! Her blood seemed like it was boiling, and all she could think about was beating the crap out of her attacker. She was one angry fish.

Using whatever strength she had left, she bounced up out of the water and hurtled straight for the staryu. She aimed her sharp horn towards it, intending to inflect a painful fury attack onto it. Maybe a few puncture wounds would teach it lesson about leaving others alone and minding its own business.

Hudson could only watch for now, he didn't want to get in between Ophelia's horn/pure rage and its target. If it looked like she was going to hurt the staryu too much, he would quickly recall her into her pokeball. While he was annoyed with what the staryu had done to them, he certainly didn't want it to get seriously injured.

((OOC: The RNG Gods smile upon you.))

Under most circumstances, the Staryu would have no problems sustaining that psychic attack. But now it was disoriented and dizzy, and its focus broke right after it slammed the Goldeen against the ground. Its mind clouded as the effects of the earlier sonic attack hit it without warning. In its confusion it flailed around frantically and lost its balance, crashing upon the ground with a thud.

Misery loves company, and that adage rang true: angered and hurt, the Goldeen picked herself up with renewed strength and charged straight at her target with her horn, unleashing a devastating flurry of attacks. In its addled state, there was nothing the Staryu could do except to cry out in agony.

Staryu was hit 4 times!
Staryu is confused! (turn 2)

Hudson cringed as he watched the staryu try to run, only to trip and fall over, then get stabbed by Ophelia's horn multiple times. That looked like it hurt, a lot. It wasn't even really a fair fight at this point. Ophelia was just mercilessly unloading pure rage onto this staryu. Yes, it had sprayed them with some water, but it could've just been an accident. And even if it was a prank, was brutally mauling the poor starfish pokemon for revenge really the right thing to do? Hudson was going to have to talk to Ophelia about not overreacting to little things like this in the future.

Quickly, Hudson pressed the button on Ophelia's pokeball to recall her. The fish pokemon was still in the process of ramming her horn into her victim when the red beam of light was fired her way. The last thing Hudson saw of her was a brief look of surprise as she was sucked inside her pokeball. Now that the staryu's attacker was out of the way, Hudson could focus on helping it. He had realized he did not have any healing items in his bag at the moment, so all he could do was take it to the pokemon center. With a dive ball in hand, Hudson ran across the sand to the staryu and knelt by its side.

"I'm gonna bring you to the pokemon center and make sure they make you feel better, ok?" Hudson said as he gently moved to tap the staryu's top appendage with the empty dive ball.

Abruptly, there was a flash of crimson light, and the relentless assault ceased. Seconds later, someone else approached. Still dizzy and hurt, the Staryu braced itself for the worst...

... except it never came.

The newcomer (the human?) said something indistinct, and the Staryu felt something touching one of its appendages. Crimson light, not unlike the earlier flash, enveloped it. It was unfamiliar, but for some unknown reason it was warm and comforting. The Staryu willingly gave itself up to the light, having neither the strength nor the will to resist.

As the Dive Ball snapped shut, the Staryu gradually slipped into a deep slumber, safe and sound.

1, 2, 3, KACHUNK, the wild Staryu was caught! Congratulations!
