Lajira huffed and stared around at the desolate landscape around her. It helped that she was astride her drampa, Shiso, and therefore flying a foot or two above the sand, but it still managed to get everywhere. Shiso was amazingly patient with all of this nonsense, but Lajira was pretty sure she was going to need to spend hours getting him clean after the fact.

The desert was not a place she enjoyed being, but she'd heard that the trapinch line of pokemon was out in the desert, and wanted to see if she could catch one of them for herself. They did eventually evolve into a dragon-type, and Lajira was interested in seeing that first hand. Hopefully their search would turn up something interesting soon, because she'd been at this for an hour or more and only seen a few random pokemon here and there.

Every bird had to leave the nest some day.

The vullaby might have left a bit earlier than her sisters, but she wasn't worried. She took one step in front of the other through the blistering sands, already frustrated that she couldn't flap her wings and fly away as she had seen her mother do a thousand times. But no, the shell she was inside was just too heavy, and every time she furiously flapped her wings, the most she could do was accidentally kick up sand and send it flying.

The vullaby froze when she saw a dragon pokemon that didn't even look as though it had wings to begin with flying through the air. That wasn't fair! The vullaby squawked furiously and rushed after the drampa. It was probably going far too fast for her to catch up, but she was too insulted by the nerve of the world to let something without wings fly while she, a BIRD, could not!

Shiso tilted his head, attention caught by the furious squawking behind him, and paused in his flight, twisting around in the air to peer down at whatever was making such a racket. The dragon made an amused noise, drifting closer to the ground to peer at the vullaby.

"Someone's popular," Lajira told Shiso with amusement, as she leaned over his neck and looked at the wild pokemon. "Heya little one, what's all the racket for?"

The vullaby jumped back when the human addressed her with an ugly squawk, interrupted from the serious glare she'd been delivering to the dragon. Apparently, her challenge was going ignored! The vulture was angry. Was she not being taken seriously just because she couldn't fly? Oh, the nerve! She'd show them she could keep up!

Puffing out another squawk, the vullaby issued a gust. The attack not towards the dragon or in any offensive means, but beneath herself. For a moment, just a moment, her little wings kicked up a burst of wind that actually lifted her from the sand ... also kicking up a tiny flurry of sand in its wake. The dark type puffed up her chest in pride ... just as the wind faded away, and she fell right back into the sand on her egg, the landing kicking up a puff of dust that made her cough before resuming her angry squawking at the dragon and trainer.

Shiso couldn't help giving a soft laugh at the antics of the little pokemon, as she kicked herself into the air using a rather clever application of a gust and her tiny wings. 'That's quite the trick,' he informed the young pokemon, settling closer to the ground. His whiskers rippled and he gave her a warm smile. 'Well done.'

Lajira was also very amused by the way the younger pokemon was acting, though was doing her best to hide that. Based on how this pokemon was acting, it was likely a young one, and Lajira didn't really want to offend. "Would you like a battle?" she offered, "Or are you interested in something else?" Having Shiso fight was overkill, so if the vullaby wanted a battle she'd need to consider which of her pokemon would be a good choice.

The vullaby quieted for a moment when the great dragon spoke to her, staring at him stunned with eyes as wide as saucers. He ... thought she'd done well? For a moment, she was left unsure of how she felt, before she burst right back into a fit of temper. That was so condescending! She squawked and hopped back on her feet, flapping her tiny wings but not managing to lift herself up no matter how hard she tried.

When the human asked if she'd like to battle, the wild pokemon paused again as she stared blankly up at her. A battle ...? Yes! That would help her prove her point! She squawked, flapping her wings before turning to the dragon. "Yeah! You there! Fight me!" The concept of an uneven fight wasn't one she was familiar to the little bird. As far as she was concerned, she could take on the whole world!

Especially if it'd get her closer to being able to stretch her wings.

Shiso blinked in surprise at the way the vullaby reacted to his honest praise. He settled a bit closer to the ground yet again, tilting his head and watching as she squawked and flailed and tried to fly. He really didn't understand her fury -- surely time itself would assist in solving her problem with flight?

"Are you sure about that?" Shiso asked the vullaby when she demanded that he fight her. He coiled his body around, shrugging Lajira from his back with a gentle motion and settling on the ground in front of his trainer and across from the vullaby. "I won't go easy on you."

"Shiso?" Lajira asked, one eyebrow arched as she glanced between the dragon and the vullaby. Her hand had paused in the midst of pulling another pokeball from her pouch, and she slowly withdrew her hand without anything in it. "Well, I guess if you really want to."

The vullaby flapped her wings, heated and glad to finally have an outlet. "Good!" She retorted to the dragon type's warning. She might lose, but it'd be more insulting if he handled her with kiddy paws. She was ready, and even if she wasn't, it would be worse if she was pitied.

It'd just prove to her that she really should just return back to the nest.

She had been waiting for the dragon to attack her so that she could reflect it, but it seemed like she was being given the first blow when the human relented. She puffed up her feathers. Fine. Without waiting any longer under the beating heat of the sun, she rushed in to land a fury attack. She wasn't even paying attention to how many hits she landed, if any at all, fluttering back a ways to see what this strange creature would do to retaliate.

Shiso leaned back, pulling his head away from the vullaby's flurry of strikes. The four blows struck against his underbelly, and Shiso huffed; while not precisely powerful or dangerous, the blow did sting a bit. "My turn," Shiso told the small pokemon, as he curled around to stare down at her.

He inhaled deeply, then opened his mouth to exhale a mighty breath at her. Dragon Breath was hardly his strongest attack, but it was powerful, and likely wouldn't make her think that he was taking it easy on her.

Lajira took a small step back, watching the rather one-sided combat was interest. A dark-flying type wasn't what she was out here for, but maybe Nox would be interested? She didn't think he had one just yet, and this vullaby seemed... interested in growing stronger.

The vullaby had been proud of the damage she'd inflicted, even if the dragon had seemed overall unaffected. She had done her best, and no one had to tell her not to make light of that. Being doused in the dragon's breath, of course, did wonders to douse her spirits.

She winced and cried out, pain racing through her as she felt her joints less likely to move. She was not deterred, but as she tried to lunge forward she found it difficult to do. With a huff, she flapped her wings under her as she had done the first time, the gust doing more to shoot her towards the dragon in a small burst than actually damage her opponent. Whether she'd hit him, or even make it far enough to dream of it, she wasn't sure. But she tried.

[Lajira Amahel honestly you can have this do no damage for free if you want, i'm just having fun]

Shiso was rather impressed with the vullaby's efforts. Even if they were futile, she was using her abilities creatively and doing her best to deal with an unwinnable situation. He doubted if she acknowledged that it was unwinnable, but the fact that she kept going was admirable.

He twisted around, using his soft tail to catch the vullaby before she could do damage to either of them with her fascinating strategy. A moment's thought, and Shiso flicked his tail up to toss her into the sky. "You wish to fly? Then fly!" he rumbled, calling up a Twister underneath the young bird to send her even higher.

The vullaby hadn't been sure what had happened at first when her descent had ended so sharply, opening her eyes slowly from where she'd squeezed them shut. She was resting on the dragon's soft tail, peering up at him as his voice rumbled and resonated in her bones. Was this what the clouds felt like ...? Next thing she knew, she was propelled upwards into the sky, giving a surprised squawk.

She flapped her wings rapidly to try to keep afloat, and then the dragon's attack pushed her even higher into the air, and she - screeched her joy in some equivalent to a whoop. It hurt, sure, but she was flying!

Of course, all good things must end, and what goes up must come down if it hasn't grown into its wings. The vullaby screeched her disappointment as she began to fall, hitting the ground with a 'thump' and kicking up sand in her wake. She blinked a few minutes before coughing, but as she willed herself to get up, she found that she could not. Paralyzed, she was unable to retaliate this turn, and hurting.

[Lajira Amahel I'm glad you like her!]

He examined the paralyzed vullaby for a long moment, head swaying gently above the prone baby bird, before shifting to the side and beckoning his trainer over. Considering the state he had put the vullaby in, there was no harm in pausing for a round and making an offer.

Lajira walked over when Shiso gestured to her, and considered the vullaby. Her dragon seemed to have taken a liking to the other pokemon, and she supposed she could see why. Nox might enjoy having a flying/dark type around, one that didn't know the meaning of quit, and if he didn't want the vullaby, Lajira would keep her. She might not be a the typical pokemon that Lajira went for, but it might be interesting to have one around.

"Would you like to come with us?" Lajira asked, as she held out a pokeball to the paralyzed bird. "I have a friend who trains dark types who might like to have a courageous bird like you around, and if he doesn't, I certainly would."

The bird couldn't move, a status that left her keenly aware of her mistakes. That said, she kept her beak tighty shut, loathe to apologize or admit to such a thing. The prideful young vullaby waited for the final blow to come ... but it didn't. She stared, wide-eyed and expectant, from both the dragon and the human that stepped forward. No attack came - only words.

An offer.

Pride welled in her like a festering swelling vine, and yet ... she was still self-aware. If she refused, where would she go? On in the desert, fending for herself? Or worse, back to the safety of her mother's nest, to be scolded. The human offered her a place to belong ... and, perhaps better yet, a place where she could grow as strong as the dragon.

It took the majority of her strength, but the dark type stretched out her neck to tap her beak against the pokeball that was held out before her. It cracked open to her surprise, responding to her interaction and sucking her inside to safety. The pokeball shook in the woman's hand, before drawing to a still with a click.

Congratulations! Wild Vullaby has been caught!
