People usually forsook fashion for functionality whenever the weather got cold and misty, but Kieran was not one of the common folk; he never strove for anything less than beautiful. Swooping about in his magnificent premium raincoat blazer and designer-cut Seviper leather boots, every bit of his outfit dripped with slick shimmering success. Kieran's lips sharpened smugly. He enjoyed the finest things his deck of credit cards afforded him. Champagne, clothes, cars, and the stares of envy that sneaked out from the corners of passers-by's eyes. How dare this man look so good amidst such shivering times? Something as insignificant as cold weather would do nothing to stop him from enjoying his vacation. A Stufful squeaked cutely as it tottered beside Kieran, its little tag perking up with each step. He, too, was excited to visit this world-class restaurant that Kieran was bringing him to!

Felicity Veleno, let's go! ;D

Garland City. It was about as far away from Primrose Town as she could get. She hadn't intended to travel this far so early into her journey but the work in Primrose Town was a bit sparse given the weather. So she'd managed to hitch a ride to Garland City with the excuse that she needed to visit family but had lost her wallet and ID and couldn't buy a bus ticket. And here she was. Hopefully in a place where she was unlikely to run into Adrian yet again and have him put an end to her plans. She needed money and she was getting desperate. So she'd gone somewhere she was hoping Adrian wouldn't be in the hopes of doing a bit of pick pocketing. She'd spent a pretty successful bit of the afternoon camped out in a busy part of the city, near several upscale shops and fancy restaurants. She'd target the people who looked like they wouldn't miss what she could take off of them. At least that way she didn't feel quite so bad.

The weather was beginning to turn, however, and it was getting cold and a mist hung in the air that promised rain, or perhaps even snow, later. She'd have to finish up and find somewhere to stay for the night. She was just beginning to consider heading for the pokemon center for warmth and rest when she spotted him. Fancy jacket, high-end boots and an 'I'm better than the world' smug look on his face had Felicity deciding she'd get one last theft in before turning in for the day. He was just the sort of jerk who needed to be shown the rest of the world could come and kick you in the teeth when it felt like it. She tailed him for a bit, watching the Stufful at his side and deciding the best way to go about trying to steal from him. Once she had figured it out, she called on Nani. The Pikachu was happy to act as a distraction and darted forward, giving the Stufful a little zap as she passed them before planting herself in the pair's path. While the Stufful and it's human were distracted, Felicity could hopefully sneak up and snag the guy's wallet without being seen.

Kieran's leisurely stroll slowed down to a gentle pitter-patter as he came to a junction, unsure which street the restaurant was on. With all his energy drawn visually to the screen of his phone, Kieran was too busy checking his map app to realise that something off was happening around him. Thoughts of sweet moist Poffins and steaming savoury soup blocked out the harsh coldness so that Kieran could concentrate on bridging the gap between him and comfort. While Kieran tapped away on his phone, the cute plushy Stufful noticed something stirring in the air -- and in a whoop and dash, electricity flared up around them as a Pikachu leaped out into the open!

Cursing the sudden change in tide, Kieran looked up as he kept his phone tightly within the grasp of his artisan Arbok leather gloves, eager to solve the situation swiftly so he could return to his plans. Was this stray Pikachu, probably just eager for a quick brawl, really worth the effort? Not really. "Just scare it off," he commanded loftily, and the pink bear's visage became dark with an awful Scary Face! Something unholy turned inside the Stufful's gaze, a sudden flash of red and a snarl far too sinister for such a delightful face, that made it unnervingly clear that all wasn't as it seemed here.

"Will you just move along, please," Kieran added with as much care as a yawn.

Nani made a show of yawning and not being at all phased by the Scary Face the Sutfful was making at her. If this was a real battle she'd be upset by the reduction in her speed but it wasn't and she didn't need speed to just hold the attention of the human. Instead, she focused on the little device he held. With a practiced ease, she darted forward and scrambled up his pant-leg and came to rest on his shoulder. Her movements served to cover Felicity's attempts to reach into the pocket she was pretty sure held the guy's wallet. Except the chill was starting to get to her and she sneezed, hand outstretched with her prize in plain view.

And immediately both she and Nani froze. For several heartbeats, neither of them moved. Nani reganed her senses first and abandoned the man's shoulder to return to her trainer. With a sharp cry, she spurred Felicity into action and the girl tried to duck around her target. But if either the guy or his pokemon were fast enough the could stop her easily.

Throwing off his sleek cultured demeanour, Kieran yelped and tried to pull the annoying Pikachu off his coat. Its static interfered with his phone, creating glitches that didn't help in his situation at all. What could Kieran possibly have that this pesky creature wanted? "Get off!" His fingers clawed but grabbed nothing as the yellow mouse scampered all over him. The Pikachu was probably leaving claw marks all over his coat, and his tightly combed hair was loosening.

Even as Kieran's personality unravelled over the a stray Pokemon, Stufful's gleaming eyes fixed analytically on the Pikachu's behaviour. Stufful was quite a trickster himself; he knew that Pokemon didn't behave stupidly unless they had something to achieve. Wild Pokemon acted with the two main aims of survival and food in mind. Since neither Kieran nor Stufful had done anything to threaten the Pikachu's life, the Pikachu was probably trying to acquire something for its own material benefit...

...or for someone else. "Damn fool!" Kieran cursed as he felt someone pull his wallet out from its pocket. He'd really let himself go with this one, and disappointingly so as well. He would've expected better from a Grunt, let alone himself! Kieran spun around to see a girl and the accursed Pikachu several strides away from him. Furious at her for daring to rob him and even more furious with himself for being so focused on his hunger that this could happen, Kieran's features twisted into a snarl. A sudden foxlike aura took over Stufful's face, distorting it into a fearful show of malice. Stepping forward, the Stufful exhaled a jet of flame at the Pikachu! Stufful used Flamethrower!

Felicity chanced a glance over her shoulder and immediately wished she hadn't. She recognized that foxlike shadow. It was a Zoroark. One of the others in her former group had owned a Zoroark. It was a nasty creature, second only to Nowe's Aegislash. Which made sense considering the person it belonged to was Nowe's second-in-command. It had been the Zoroark that had set the breeder's place ablaze after Nowe had killed the man. Fear thrilled through her at the thought and she tripped, covering her head with her arms as a jet of flame flashed by overhead.

Once the flames had faded, Felicity scrambled to put her back against a wall so that no one could sneak up behind her. She huddled in on herself, shaking and terrified that she was about to be roasted alive. "I-I'm s-sorry. I-I'll give the wallet back." She held it out, her shaking hand scraped and bleeding from her fall. "See? H-here. P-please d-don't hurt me." Tears welled in her eyes and she found herself wishing Adrian was there. This would be the perfect time for him to just show up and, in his gruff way, rescue her from herself. But he wasn't going to show up and she was on her own with pokemon that stood no chance against the likes of a fully evolved Zoroark. Nani wasn't sure what she could do but she stood as bravely as she could in front of her human. She'd do her best to protect the girl, even if she knew she was likely to lose.

Kieran was shocked, disappointed even, at how quickly the thief gave in. It really was quite a downer. He expected much more of a scuffle from someone who was intent on making an illegal living, probably even enough of a fight for it to have been exciting for him. Even the girl's Pikachu was putting up more of a fight than her. Kieran's gaze moved from the yellow mouse to its trainer, his face stoic even as his eyes held deep pools of profound meaning. There was much to be felt in this situation. Kieran, too, made a living off crime; by now, it was practically his entire life. Never, though, had he ever been as helpless as this wannabe thief. But was that because he'd never felt such depths of fear, or because he never allowed himself to grieve?

Kieran looked down and examined his phone; now that the Pikachu was off his shoulders, it blipped back into life, the ugly acidic glitches a thing of the past. His coat was similarly unharmed, smooth and unscathed. Kieran afforded himself a small grin. "Well, no damage done here," he said coolly once he turned his gaze back to the girl. His eyes shone with knowing as though he just had an electric clairvoyant vision. Even if he'd been a better crook, she was more honest with herself. Kieran was different; unlike most other Nightshade grunts who turned to crime because they didn't have anywhere else to go, he chose the dark life out of his own free will. It had always been a choice for him, but it was clear that things were different for this girl. The question now was whether she was in it so she could escape one day, or if she was in it for good.

"You should really consider improving your skills if you're in this for the long haul," Kieran said, his voice smooth and tense as a silk string. He made no move to reclaim his wallet, standing with the energy of someone who was still but yet alive, silent but yet singing with his eyes. "There are people who can teach you, you know." He hoped she'd get the hint. If she willed it, he could give her the keys to the world. She could become like him, living where heaven bent down to kiss the earth, bathed in luxury and prestige. Of course, she had to want it. Perhaps she would turn away like Kieran never did.

At first the guy didn't even seem to register that she was there. He just...checked his phone and smoothed his jacket. What a smug jerk. She was sorely tempted to tell Nani to zap his stupid phone and fry it but one glance at the Sutfful that wasn't a Stufful made the order die on her lips. She was not going to piss the guy off when he had a Zoroark at his side. She didn't trust them and she wasn't going to risk it.

When he looked back at her and spoke, she felt her stomach churn. This was far too similar to what she'd experienced when she was eight years old. An older boy in his mid-teens, his brilliant blue eyes looking down at her as she cowered in fear, cold, hungry and alone. He'd promised her a family, people who'd help her survive. But it was all just pretty words and false promises. She knew that now, had known it for awhile. He'd been gathering strays, the lost and alone, with nowhere else to turn. And he'd turned them into criminals. Pick pocketing at first, then moving to shoplifting and burglary. And then to poaching and black market sales. Eventually it had led to murder. And Felicity had been there to witness it. Fear had driven her to the police and then out of Nimbasa City, to Castelia City and, eventually, to Eden. She'd promised herself she'd start over and become a nurse. She was doing a very poor job of being a decent citizen so far.

She threw the wallet at his feet. "Take your wallet and leave me alone." She snapped at him, her fear slowly being replaced by anger. This slick stranger with his expensive jacket and stupid boots who thought he was better than she was because he had money. "I've heard all the pretty lies and false promises. I don't need nor want your kind of help." She got to her feet, hands curling into fists. "I was part of the Nimbasa City poaching ring. I can take care of myself." She knew her band had been fairly well known in other regions. Whether this guy knew about them or not she wasn't sure. She would not, however, reveal her role in taking them down. She did not need anyone alerting the few remaining members of the ring to her location. She wasn't even certain the leaders had been taken down and she had no doubt what her fate would be if they found out she'd betrayed them.

Even though Kieran's lips remained pressed in his trademark display of steeliness, something unfolded in the depths of his eyes like a fire lit within an igloo. It was gentle and golden, and it almost seemed to care. Kieran's solar plexus knocked softly with a strange blip that distorted his matrix of calculated logic, and it wrestled with the hardness of his gaze. Sympathy, a feeling that was foreign and familiar all at once, had been banished from Kieran's psyche a long time ago, and the man no longer knew how to channel that drive into action. The tension inside his gut pulled him in two directions: should he keep his distance, or lean inwards? Such was the struggle of a new muscle relearning how it can stretch and extend.

Once the girl threw his wallet at his feet, the blizzard in Kieran's mind snarled with a sharp rage. That was genuine black Charizard leather, probably worth more than her entire life. However, something else made that errant blip grow stronger as well, making him question whether his rage was actually misdirected sympathy. Something about the girl's candidness, perhaps her acceptance of her situation or her honest anger at her fate, impacted Kieran enough to bypass his imperial complex and shoot straight for his humanity. Wasn't he at this point just a decade ago?

Everybody loves in the ways they know how, and Kieran loved by scolding and shouting, telling himself that it doesn't matter whether people respect him as long as he got the job done. Kieran half-shouted as his muscles tightened in an attempt to keep his frustration in. "There are ways of making a living in this manner that won't get you killed!" Kieran's not-Stufful looked up at him with a narrowed glance of confusion. He'd never seen his trainer moved to such depths of authentic expression. Why was this affecting him so much?

Gathering his spilling energy, Kieran pulled himself back together and directed himself in a beam of tightly focused force. "Are you expecting me to be impressed?" he asked. A dangerous smile flashed momentarily across the angles of his face, and he took a small step closer. His eyes flickered with an appraising glint and he did not approve of what he saw. "Your little gang of playground bullies has taught you nothing. Stay that way if you're content with living on scraps, but I can show you the way to royalty." It was a miracle how this man managed to be so condescending and sincere at the same time. He was a conquering force, and by some bizarre compulsion, he wanted to protect this poor girl in the most dysfunctional but only way that he knew.
