And with one final hit, Harry's injuries overwhelmed the little dragon. Once the last bits of his energy flowed over into his opponent, the Druddigon collapsed onto the floor, down for the count and out of the battle. Dan smiled toughly. Harry fought valiantly, never once letting the adverse conditions that were stacked up against him get the better of his spirit. "Well done, Harry. Return!" Dan declared, recalling the fallen dragon into his Ultra Ball. "And well done to you too, Jae!" Dan's smile sharpened into a determined glint. No holding back any more.

"It's your turn, Ron!" Ron the Sableye materialised in the dissipating sandstorm amidst a swirl of shadow, and his crystal eyes shone with secret cunning. Wasting no time in putting his opponent down, Ron conjured a ball of green flame and sent it shooting forward with the impossibly fast speed boost that Prankster gave him! Ron used Will o' Wisp!

Bangtan’s attacks, coupled with the raging sandstorm that Zea had summoned, finally wore out the Driddigon. As the dragon Pokemon collapsed, the Lucario allowed himself a brief moment to celebrate, punching his fist into the air triumphantly before settling back into a defensive stance to face Dan’s next Pokemon.

“Nicely done, Bangtan.” Jae’s pride and joy was evident in his voice as he praised the Lucario’s performance. “You too, Zea,” he added, not forgetting the Helioptile’s efforts in the opening stage of the battle. If Zea hadn’t struck the Druddigon with a paralyzing wave of electricity and called forth a sandstorm, Bangtan might not have prevailed.

The fight was far from over, however. Based on Dan’s determined expression, Jae knew that it would only get harder from this point onwards. Zea had expended almost all of his stamina, and Bangtan was unlikely to outlast the next of Dan’s Pokemon in his current state. “Thank you,” he replied to the gym leader’s compliment. “That sure wasn’t easy at all.”

As the sandstorm subsided, Dan sent out his second Pokemon: a Sableye. The darkness Pokemon’s crystal eyes glinted with mischief; he probably wouldn’t have the same level of raw, brute power as the Druddigon, but he would make up for that shortcoming with his cunning and unorthodox modus operandi.

And sure enough, before Bangtan could react, the Sableye conjured a ghostly orb of green fire and hurled it straight at Bangtan with blinding speed. The aura Pokemon howled in anger and pain as the orb exploded upon impact, wreathing him in flames and sapping his physical strength.

“Stay focused, Bangtan.” Upon hearing his trainer’s calm and steady voice, Bangtan pulled himself together and steeled his will. He would not let this devious Pokemon defeat him that easily.

Neither would Jae, of course. “Let’s return the favour, shall we? Use Copycat!”

A ghostly green aura flared outwards from Bangtan’s body, before condensing into a small orb identical to the one the Sableye conjured. With a snarl, Bangtan hurled the orb at his opponent, hoping to afflict it with the same ghostly flames.

The sandstorm subsided.
Bangtan used WILL-O-WISP (via COPYCAT)!
Bangtan was hurt by its burn!

No! Ron screeched as the returned attack wreathed him in green fire, halving his physical strength. His eyes gleamed with orange-white sunlight and green frustration, and he resolved to put his annoying foe down for good. On the other hand, Dan certainly didn't see that coming, and that move inspired a whole new level of respect for Jae and his Pokemon. It seemed as though the Wisteria sunlight was melting through Jae's apprehension, revealing a core of true strength within. What a privilege to witness him blooming in the sun, and what a joy to provide the heat that pushed the process.

"Oh, that was sneaky!" Dan beamed across the field with a spirit of flaming competition and fun. A plan was weaving itself together in his head, creating a way out of this reduced offensive power. If Ron couldn't claw his way to victory, he'd think his way there.

"Use Nasty Plot!" A dark gaping blackness swallowed the refracted pools of light in Ron's eyes, and his maw spread out in an impossibly wide grin that covered up the pain of his burn.

SpAtk +2! Ron was hurt by his burn!

((OOC: Apologies for the looooong delay >< Been swamped with work lately. Anyway, Bangtan has been boosted to gold tier since the thread started, but since he hasn't evolved he hasn't learnt any new moves outside of attacks above 90 power. I'll refer to his existing list of moves, but I'll ignore all the moves with more than 90 power.))

"I'll take that as a compliment," Jae responded without missing a beat. Having spent most of his childhood feeling inadequate about almost everything had its perks; he always had to work harder, think faster, and act quicker than anyone else, and consequently he prided himself on his ability to adapt to any situation.

The true effects of that guileful counter on the battle was not yet apparent, and Jae told himself not to let that one little success get to his head. Dan and his Sableye were already setting their plan into motion. The gym leader's plan seemed simple and plain enough, but there was something in the darkness Pokémon's impossibly wide grin that unsettled Jae. He would really have to up his game to keep up.

Like his opponent, Jae had his own ways of circumventing Bangtan's reduced physical prowess. "Stay alert, buddy," he cautioned. "Foresight!"

Gritting his teeth against the pain from the burn, the Lucario's eyes glowed briefly as he studied his opponent, carefully reading the Sableye's every move.

Bangtan used FORESIGHT!

Bangtan was hurt by its burn!

Jae and Bangtan countered Ron's tricks at every turn, putting quite a few blocks in Dan's way. The jackal's irradiating gaze washed over Ron's violet skin, but it didn't stop there. It pierced straight into the centre of his spectral soul and shook him with the realisation that he no longer had anywhere to hide. Mystic static crawled over his skin as he felt his body fall out of astral weightlessness, relocating him firmly in the physical world. The ghost was now solid, visible, and vulnerable. Dan sometimes faltered in situations like this. On one hand, Gym Leaders were obliged to test a trainer's worth, but in most situations were basically professional losers, paid to lose to a whole queue of trainers. Still, Dan wasn't giving up yet. He, too, was put to the test here. How tricky can Dan and Ron get in the face so many challenges?

Ron's eyes were pools of night even underneath the Wisterian sun, and Dan looked deep inside them to see a source of strength that persevered even in the light of their situation. "It's time to stop being cute, buddy!" Dan roared, the angles of his face reflecting a playful snarl. Shaking off the stinging burn momentarily to let his courage shine through, Ron's forked tongue made a devious slash as he glowed with unearthly power. "Ron, Shadow Ball!" A huge glob of inky horror arced across the arena and descended upon Bangtan like a black sun.

SpAtk +2! Burn!

If Dan hadn't made it clear that earlier in the battle that playtime was over, he most certainly did so now. The Sableye, with nowhere to hide from Bangtan's piercing gaze, would have to fight on equal terms now. Nonetheless, Jae knew that there was always a chance, however slim, that Dan would surprise him with yet another trick.

Barring something utterly unexpected, Jae had a feeling that the gym leader would opt for a direct attack, a prediction that came true as the Sableye launched forth an inky black orb of pure shadow.

It was one thing knowing what to expect, but countering that move was an entirely different matter. "Brace yourself!" There was no time to dodge as the orb tore through the air. Instinctively the Lucario threw up his arms in defence and manifested a hemispheric shield of energy, but Jae knew that it would do little to soften the blow. Indeed, the shadowy ball simple phased through the barrier as though it wasn't there at all, slamming solidly against Bangtan and almost knocking him off his feet.

Recovering from the attack and settling back into his stance Bangtan gave his trainer the slightest hint of a nod to say that he was still holding up, though barely. "Just a little more," Jae urged, knowing that there was only so much more punishment his Pokémon could take. The burn was clearly taking its toll on Bangtan, and so had the powerful orb of shadow from the Sableye.

"Retaliate with Aura Sphere!" Jae called, and Bangtan growled in acknowledgement as he gathered the aura of energy surrounding him into a compact, glowing sphere between his hands. With a ferocious roar, Bangtan thrust his palms forwards, sending the ball of energy straight at the Sableye.

Bangtan used AURA SPHERE!
Bangtan was hurt by its burn!

Having been stung by his burn twice and taken a Foresight that unghosted him for as long as he remained out, Ron wasn't feeling very well at all. Even the momentary glimpse of vindictive glee that his Shadow Ball afforded him was soon eclipsed by an incoming Fighting attack to which he was no longer immune. Dropping onto all fours, Ron zig-zagged away like a cockroach, but the Aura Sphere swerved across the air and plunged down on him anyway, knocking him off the wall in a huge blast. Ron fell splat onto the stone floor, his limbs splaying open unnaturally.

"Get back up, Ron! You can do it!" That might have been true if Ron hadn't been burned several rounds ago. Dwindling down to zero, Ron's health came to the end of its tether, and the mischievous spark in his jewelled eyes smoked out.

Ron is unable to battle!

"Well done, Ron." Dan's jaw tightened as he withdrew his Sableye. The heat of the match fused his eyebrows into one tense knot of muscle. He had to turn the battle around with his final Pokemon, and he'd find a way to do it somehow.

Dan sent out Hermione, Mawile (F/Silver)!

Hermione threw her fangs open in an awful roar, intimidating anyone unfortunate enough to see her second mouth. Smelling her ally's defeat in the air, the little fairy went for revenge immediately, leaping forwards as her terrible fangs set themselves on fire - Hermione used Fire Fang!

Jae heaved a sigh of relief as the Sableye was finally knocked out. The gym leader was now down to his last Pokémon, but Jae wasn't faring that much better either. While Bangtan was still standing, Jae doubted he could even endure one more hit. The challenger did have the option of sending out Zea again, but like the Lucario, the Heliolisk was also weakened after the battle with the Druddigon.

Whatever hopes Jae had of Bangtan pulling off one more attack were completely dashed as Dan called forth his final Pokémon: a Mawile. As a gym trainer at the Ironwood Gym Jae was familiar with the Mawile's strengths and weaknesses, and had a sinking feeling that Dan would be able to finish this battle in a single attack.

The Mawile opened its gaping jaw and roared, shattering whatever remained of Bangtan's will to fight. And Jae's worst fears were confirmed when the Mawile surged forward and clamped her flaming jaws down on her target. Tired and battered from the battle against the Druddigon and Sableye, Bangtan gave one last cry before collapsing. "That was a valiant fight," Jae said as he recalled the unconscious Lucario. "I'm proud of you, my brave little warrior."

Reaching for his last Poké Ball, he hesitated for a second before casting aside his doubts and tossing the Poké Ball. Whether it was a wise choice or a tactical mistake, Jae would find out in due time. With a flash of crimson light, the Poké Ball released his final Pokémon – Clazzi – who landed elegantly on the arena floor.

Wasting no time, Jae set his half-baked plan into action. "Clazzi, mimic that Mawile's last move!"

With a shrill bark, the Furfrou complied and scrutinised his opponent, his eyes glowing as he temporarily copied the Mawile's last move. What had proved effective against Bangtan would be equally useful against the Mawile.

Bangtan's attack fell!

Bangtan fainted!

Jae sent out Clazzi!

Clazzi used MIMIC!
Clazzi learnt FIRE FANG!

In terms of type alone, Hermione was primed to win. How could that dog land anything on this steel-clad child -- unless, of course, the dog could melt through metal? Of course Jae found a way past that little detail, and Dan's gut tightened with the realisation that the end was going to play out very differently from how he envisioned it to be. Jae's ingenious plan made Dan want to just award him the badge now, but if only he could. Jae still had to prove he had the muscle to make it all the way through.

Hermione wasn't giving up either! Smiling sweetly as her second head snapped its jaws greedily, she sized her opponent up and zeroed in on the tender flesh beneath its fur coat. "Brick Break!" Dan roared, and Hermione's demure expression turned into an ugly gaping grin as she swung about to unleash the metallic fury behind her disguise. Throwing herself forwards, every part of the fairy's body thrashed about in a bid to bring the greatest amount of pain possible down on her challenger.

At the sight of the oncoming Mawile, Clazzi rapidly backpedalled, trying to escape the full wrath of the fairy Pokémon. Despite his best efforts, a few attacks struck true. But what was supposed to be a ferocious onslaught turned out to be significantly weaker as the blows landed on the Furfrou's protective fur coat.

Putting in a burst of speed, Clazzi managed to put some distance between him and the Mawile. Shifting his feet, he hunkered down, ready to pounce and retaliate. "It's our turn to turn up the heat. Fire Fang!"

Right on cue, Clazzi launched herself towards the Mawile. Flames ignited in his jaws as he aimed for any unprotected part of his opponent, intending to chomp down as hard as he could. It was time to give the Mawile a taste of her own medicine.

Clazzi used FIRE FANG!

After slamming her jaws into Clazzi's body, Hermione cleared out with a jump that was too light for a steel-clad Pokemon like her. Spinning back to face her foe with unnatural grace, shock seized her when she saw that her attack did next to nothing! Even though his fur was slightly razzled, Clazzi stood tall as his fangs flared defiantly. Here came the final leg of the match! Speeding forth and leaving a trail of orange behind him, the big dog was on top of Hermione within seconds. Try as she might, Hermione couldn't push him off, and squealed when he sank his heated fangs straight into her metallic shell! Mustering all her might into her devil fangs, Hermione willed every inch of her body to fight, but heat coursed deep in her body and fused the iron in her bones into terrible knots, locking her in place for now -- Hermione flinched!
