Her heart has never raced this fast before, not even during her craziest ER shift back at her internship. She had been running at the fastest, safest speed she could manage, hopping over logs and ducking under tree branches for what felt like at least a half hour now. She was not normally a runner, or athletic at all for that matter, but the adrenaline pumping through her veins seemed to give her the extra super-human energy. She had already broken a sweat though, and the muscles in her legs were beginning to feel a little bit like jelly.

It was dark, pitch-black aside from the dim light from her flashlight that clearly needed new batteries. All she could see was the immediate jungle floor in front of her, just barely in time to jump over them, and only the closest trees and bushes to her. All she could hear was the crunching of leaves and twigs under her feet and her heavy rapid breathing. Her shoulder bag kept knocking against her right hip and she was almost positive she'd have a big bruise there tomorrow.

She had been out in the jungle training. It was successful, her Charmander had evolved into Charmeleon and she couldn't wait to show Vex. She was also coming home with two new pokémon, a Natu and a Kadabra. However, all of these events had taken time, and before she knew it the sun was down and the dynamics of the jungle had completely changed. What she had found fascinating in the sunlight she now found terrifying. It was most likely her imagination, but she felt like she kept seeing eyes in the darkness on either side of her. She wanted out of the jungle as quickly as possible. Hence, the running.

She had to be close now. She wanted to stop and check her GPS on her pokégear but the thought of stopping in this darkness scared her too much. It didn't matter anyway, because the next thing she knew she was flying forward, face-first into some bushes. Instinctually, she threw her arms out in front of her to catch herself, and as she tumbled over the tops of the bushes and her hands hit the ground, a sharp pain shot up her right arm. The twigs of the bushes scraped up her neck and face, and as she landed flat on her back, the wind knocked out of her. For a few seconds she couldn't breathe, and her heart rate skyrocketed as she began to panic.

Once she was able to catch her breath, she let out a cry of pain and grit her teeth. She looked to her right, but in the darkness she couldn't even see her arm. She could feel tiny pricks of pain across her face and neck, and a throbbing pain in her shin suggested she had tripped over something pretty big. She groaned, and lifted her head to see if she could find the flashlight that surely went flying when she did. A good few yards past her feet, the flashlight rolled to a stop, shining its light into the darkness... lighting up two piercing yellow eyes and a large grey muzzle.

Aria's heart stopped almost completely. She swallowed hard, and very, VERY slowly attempted to sit up. When she tried to use her right arm to steady herself, she couldn't help but scream in pain. It felt like someone was injecting liquid fire into her veins. She fell back down onto her elbow, and tried to roll over instead of sitting up. Whatever that pokémon was, she prayed it would stay put until she could at least get back to her feet.

Then she heard something she didn't expect to hear at all. Crying. As she very cautiously got to her feet by grabbing a nearby branch with her left hand, she could hear some sort of crying sound coming from the way she came. It wasn't human, so it must be... oh no. She was too afraid to reach for the flashlight with that thing standing nearby, so she took her pokégear out and turned it on. The gentle light from the screen illuminated her face, and she turned the screen towards the bushes. She leaned over and sure as hell, a baby version of the monster behind her sat crying, holding its face and sitting in a mess of berries and tears.

Aria barely ever cursed, but boy did she let out some real good ones just then. She had tripped over a baby monkey pokémon and landed in front of its mother on a silver platter. Her pokégear identified the baby as an Oranguru, and she began to tremble in fear as the mother Oranguru rustled behind her. Aria screamed, startled by the noise, and jumped to her right to get out of the way. She was lucky the flashlight landed the way it did, or she wouldn't be able to see at all. The mother stomped heavily over to the bushes, and stepped over them with ease. She scooped the baby up with one arm and turned to face Aria, with the most angry face she had ever seen.

Completely panicked at this point, Aria scrambled backwards towards the flashlight and fell down to the ground again, only just on her rear this time. She scurried farther and was able to reach the flashlight with her good hand. She quickly got back to her feet, her eyes fixed on the mother Oranguru and nothing else... until a low grumbling sound came from the darkness next to her. Please don't tell me... she thought, and carefully turned to her left. Yup, there he was. Daddy.

(OOC: Hope this is okay! As we discussed, Aria has a broken wrist and lots of bleeding scratches across her face and neck, not to mention her bruised hip and shin. She's in some deep trouble right now! ^^ Let me know if I need to make changes, otherwise... off we go!)

Aria should have been back at the pokemon center long before now. They were supposed to head back into town and go out for dinner. But the later it got, the more Vex began to worry that something was wrong. Aria knew how dangerous the jungle could be at night. There was no way she'd stay out after dark if she could avoid it. She was progressing but she still wasn't entirely confident n her skills as a trainer andshe didn't have very many pokemon, certainly none that were strong enough to spend all day training and then defend her if she got into trouble.

As the sun set, Vex tried to call her on her pokegear. But either she had it off, the battery was dead, or she was ignoring him because she didn't answer. And that didn't make him feel any better about the situation. She wouldn't just ignore his calls like that, especially not when she knew she was running late and he'd be wondering where she was. He'd even reached out to the archaeologists at the research site and gm area to see if she'd showed up there. No one had seen here there but they promised to let him know if she showed up. And now Vex was certain that something was wrong. So, after leaving the nurse with instructions to call him if Aria showed up, Vex set out to look for her. The jungle was difficult for Ixen to navigate even during the daylight and the trees were too thick to search from the sky.

Since he would be searching from the ground, Vex released Inik, Ryna and Suturi. Inik and Ryna could track her scent and Suturi lit the way using her stick as a torch. It was Ryna who picked up Aria's scent first and began tracking it toward the ruins. How Aria had ended up all the way out there Vex had no idea. They paused at an open space where Ryna circled, growling as she picked up a new scent. With Suturi's help they located a footprint and Vex snapped a picture of it to search his pokedex database. Nearby Inik found a feather that was enticingly familiar. "A Kadabra. And she battled it with Kaepora." Whether she won or lost he couldn't say but Ryna was whining at him to move on. So whatever had taken place here Aria had walked away from it which meant she had either defeated or captured the Kadabra.

They continued to follow the trail, with Vex wishing they could hurry up but knowing that rushing would only get them into trouble. Eventually, all three pokemon came alert and Vex tensed. There was a commotion coming from somewhere up ahead. Vex motioned for Suturi to douse her flame and she Braixen complied, keeping her stick handy just in case but allowing the flame to flicker out so they didn't give away their position in case it was just wild pokemon. He was going to just go around them and leave them to whatever they were doing. Except...Vex didn't know of any wild pokemon that gave off a wavering beam of light like that. It looked...more like a flashlight in dire need of new batteries. A trainer then?

Unsure of what they might encounter, they crept forward, quiet as they could manage, until they could view the scene before them. There were two adult Oranguru with their backs mostly to him, one cradling and infant Oranguru in it's arms. They seemed to be staring down a person, given that he could definitely tell the light was from a flashlight. But the mother (Vex assumed the smaller of the two was a female since that was the one holding the younger pokemon) was blocking his view of whoever they were threatening. It was a tense situation and even though he wanted to find Aria sooner rather than later, he couldn't leave this poor person to face the Oranguru alone.

Especially not when the larger of the two (Vex could only guess it was a male) raised it's arms and made as though to attack the human. "Ryna Dark Pulse! Inik try to throw it off balance and use Bite." The two canines leaped into action, both hitting the Oranguru from the side and causing it to stumble away from the human it was trying to attack. The female turned toward him but Suturi stood between them, waving her burning stick at their would be attacker. She didn't want to harm the infant and the Oranguru seemed to think twice about trying anything with the young one in her arms, so she lumbered off as fast she she could go.

And that's when Vex saw who he'd just saved. For a moment his heart skipped a beat and he felt a sudden wave of fear. He had almost walked away and left her there! Suddenly, he was very glad for that crappy flashlight that needed new batteries. But he didn't have time to celebrate just yet. The male Oranguru had regained himself and was charging for them again. "Ryna, Inik get rid of it!" Both canines mustered up their voices and loosed terrible howls that echoed strangely, sounding more like the roar of a big cat than the howling of dogs. The Oranguru paused, seeming to finally notice that its mate and child were gone, before crashing off through the jungle and away from the group. When the sounds of the ape-like pokemon finally faded, Vex released a breath he hadn't known he was holding. He was maybe just a little bit in shock as he just sort of stared at Aria, trying to think past the rush of adrenaline and fear that he'd felt the moment he realized it was Aria who'd been in danger.

(I didn't want to get too far with this so I'm leaving it as though Vex is sort of just standing there trying to process what just happened. He'll snap out of it the moment Aria says or does something though and, no worries. xD)

There was a heavy, sick feeling in her gut as the overgrown beast of an Oranguru stepped towards her. She had not only upset and injured his child, but she had angered his partner as well, and he couldn't have that. How is this even happening right now?? she cried, internally. She tried to scoot backwards but was now up against a tree trunk. How could this day take such a drastic turn? A moment earlier she was almost back to Vex and they'd be getting ready for dinner right now. And now... she was convinced she wasn't making it back at all. The papa Oranguru lifted his arms angrily, and Aria braced herself. She lifted her arms to shield her face and closed her eyes, causing a single tear dropping down her cheek. This was going to hurt, badly...

Suddenly, Aria heard a voice. Had it happened already? Had the massive Oranguru taken her out already and she was hearing Vex's voice in her subconcious? That was dramatic, and she knew it. Her eyes were still tightly shut and all she heard was some commotion. She apprehensively lowered her arms and squinted one eye open, surprised to see the large Oranguru stumbling to the side. She couldn't see the mother or baby anymore. Before she could even make sense of everything, she heard a very loud roar that echoed throughout the entire jungle. Had another dangerous pokémon joined the fight? What on earth was happening?

The Oranguru turned and took off into the trees. Aria sat up, weakly, and tried to figure out what had just happened. She reached for the flashlight and picked it up, shining it in every direction around her. When the light stopped on two smaller pokémon in front of her, she froze. A black and silver Houndour and a brown and white Rockruff... this was impossible. The flashlight caught sight of the orange and red Braixen further in the distance, and her heart leaped into her throat.

"Vex? Is that... you?" she managed to whimper, her voice shaky from the trembling. She couldn't see anything in this darkness, and no matter where she shined the flashlight she didn't see anyone. Those pokémon, though... they were his, she was sure of it. Maybe they had separated? Maybe he was out looking for her? The thought hadn't even occurred to her that he'd come looking for her when she didn't show. She briefly worried that she had put him in danger. She tried to sit up further against the tree trunk but the pain in her wrist made her yelp and collapse back down.

As the beam of the flashlight fell on them, the two canines gave her canine grins, with Inik's tail waving in the air behind him. Suturi glanced toward the girl but she'd turned to mostly look at Vex who looked more scared then she'd ever seen him. "Braixen?" She questioned, placing a paw on Vex's arm to see if he was okay. He blinked down at the fox-like pokemon as the beam of the flashlight swung to and fro as if looking for something.

When Aria spoke, he realized he was still standing in a spot where he was mostly hidden by plants. He could see her because she had the flashlight but where he was standing she probably couldn't see him due to the way Suturi's flame and the light from the flashlight combined to put him mostly in the shadow of the plants he was standing in. He also realized he'd been just standing there and that Aria hadn't yet gotten up from where she was sitting. When she did try to get up, she yelped and he instinctively moved toward her, gently shooing Ryna and Inik back as they moved forward out of concern as well. "Yeah, it's me. I'm here. When you didn't make it back to the pokemon center I got worried and came looking for you." He told her, his voice a tad shaky from realizing how close he'd come to losing her and never even knowing it. Now that he was closer to her he could see she was hurt. Her face and hands were scratched and bleeding, likely from a fall, but beyond that he couldn't really discern much since there wasn't quite enough light to see by. "Are you okay? Can you walk? We need to get out of here before they come back. If this is their nest, which I think it is, they will be back sooner rather than later and it's best that they don't find us." He told her, mind already trying to think of what they could do. There was no way they were making it safely back to the pokemon center tonight. They'd need a place to hide and tend to Aria's injuries as best they could until they could get help.

Her heart had been practically pounding out of her chest in suspense, as she stared into the darkness at the silhouette of the human. It rushed forward towards her when she yelped in pain, and for a second she was terrified. Then, she heard Vex's voice, and a wave of relief came crashing down over her. The heavy, sick feeling in her stomach disappeared and her heart leaped into her throat. She knew she was safe now, finally.

As Vex knelt down beside her, she knew she had to look horrible. She could still feel the slight stinging sensation from the cuts on her face, and she knew her hair and makeup had to look horrible after her tumble and sweating. That was the least of her worries, but she always tried to look good around Vex, though she didn't recognize that she did. At the sight of him and his worried expression, she broke down into tears. She wasn't scared, and it wasn't the pain, it was more out of frustration and relief that he was here... and that he had come to her rescue.

"I- I was hurrying back as fast as I could! I got a little lost in some ruins, not really lost, actually... just... I found so many pokémon..." she said excitedly through her tears, coughing a little bit to get the words out. She was laughing, as she often did around Vex, because everything suddenly seemed so silly to her. This would happen to her, and he would see it of course. She shook her head and tried to stay focused. He had asked her a question and she hadn't answered him yet.

"Yes, I can walk! It's just my wrist that hurts real bad. I can get up..." she said, and after leaning forward on her other wrist she was able to climb to her feet. Vex was right, they needed to get the hell out of there. She had no problems with this plan. However, when they both stood, she couldn't help but bury her face into his chest and hug him with her good arm. She squeezed him tighter than she ever had before. "I... I can't believe you're here. Thank you so much for coming to look for me... I dunno if I'd be..." her voice trailed off, hard to hear in the cotton of his shirt.

She reluctantly let go of him, knowing they needed to get moving. Luckily, her supply bag was still on her shoulder and she hadn't had any pokémon out that needed returned, so she was ready to go. "Which...uhh... where do we go?" she asked, not even sure how far into the jungle they were. She relied on Vex to know, since he would have more of a bearing on where he was at than her. She reached down and grabbed onto his hand tightly, hoping he wouldn't mind. She had been scared for her life not moments earlier, so she hoped he would understand and offer her his comfort right now.

As Aria broke down in tears and Vex realized how afraid she must have been, facing down the two Oranguru alone and without any of her pokemon out to defend her. It almost made him want to say he was never going to let her wander out in the wilds alone ever again. But he knew that would be silly and over-protective of him. Still, he might see about making sure they spent more time together in the wilds than they had been. But as she finally spoke, she couldn't seem to help but laugh through her tears. And he could only shake his head at her, unable to hold back a smile of his own. She was safe and everything would be fine. "You should have just called and said you were going to be late. I'd rather you be safe than getting hurt rushing to get back because we had a date. You missed out on tiramisu either way so was it worth it in the end?" He chided gently, though it was clear he was just happy that she was safe, especially since he opted to tease her about her love for the Italian dessert.

He helped her to her feet, careful to avoid her injured wrist as much as possible. Of course, once they were both standing she buried her face in his chest and clung to him for a moment. He held her close and tsk'd lightly at her words. "Of course I came looking for you. I love you. I'll always be here if you need me." He told her, allowing himself an amused chuckle as he continued. "Though don't expect me to always be able to just show up out of the blue like I did tonight. I'm not a superhero. Sometimes you'll need to let me know when you need rescuing." Hopefully there would be no more danger for them for awhile. The mudslide and now this had been quite enough for the time being, thank you very much.

As she made to step away, he held her for a moment longer, leaning in to kiss her lightly before letting her step away. He didn't care that she had scrapes and scratches or that her hair was a mess and her make-up ruined. He probably got blood on him for his troubles (he was pretty sure she'd just stained his short too) but that didn't matter to him. He could wash away the blood and replace his shirt, he couldn't replace her. "We'll head back to the ruins for the night. We can take care of your wrist and rest there until morning when it'll be safer to head back to the pokemon center and get you taken care of properly." He told her, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. He gave a soft whistle to Inik and Ryna and the two canine pokemon took the lead, following their trail back toward where they'd discovered the evidence of Aria's battle with the Kadabra. Suturi stayed with the humans, lighting their path with her stick.

Aria Wolfe
(So I've been unable to determine if this is the first time Vex has actually told Aria 'I love you', lol. So I'll leave that up to you though I think even if he's never actually said it before it's not like it's a big secret and it would be obvious to her how he feels. I just know there's a big difference in knowing how someone feels about you and hearing them say it out loud =))

The embrace sealed the deal. Aria was safe now, and back where she belonged: with Vex. She had nothing to be afraid of now. Even if the Oranguru family came back, she knew between the two of them they could handle it, and Vex had pokémon that were beyond stronger than hers. As they held onto each other tightly, Vex said something he hadn't said out loud to her before... that he loved her. I mean, she knew it, they both knew it... but that didn't stop her heart from leaping into her throat in excitement.

Despite their relationship as a couple being fairly new, they had been in each other's lives for quite a while now. Even if it hadn't been romantically, she knew Vex cared about her very much. Aria had been falling for him gradually, and by the time she figured that out she was well past infatuation, she was in love. But in this instant, she realized she hadn't told him that verbally. Neither of them had said the words out loud, and even though she was a pretty laid back girl about silly things like this, it still made her heart skip a beat hearing him say it. She made a mental note to tease him about it later, because now was definitely not the time.

As she pulled away from him, he held on tightly and wouldn't let her go. She grinned, and before she could say anything he leaned in and kissed her. That familiar warmness she often felt around him rushed over her, and she looked into his eyes when he pulled away. Even in the dim lighting from Suturi's flame she could see his face and his bright eyes. If they hadn't been in the jungle and in serious danger right now, she would have melted into a puddle. He would have to pick her up and carry her away...

His words interrupted her ridiculousness as the voice of reason. He had a plan, and she trusted him entirely. Whatever he wanted to do and wherever he wanted to go, she'd follow. He suggested heading back to the ruins, which made Aria's stomach sink a little bit. She had just come from there, and had put a lot of time, effort, and sacrifice into getting this far away from there. Or maybe she hadn't made it that far after all, from the sound of it they were closer to the ruins than the Pokémon Center. She found that extremely frustrating, and she was disappointed in herself for letting things get out of hand out there in the first place. Then, Vex squeezed her hand, and she pushed all of that negativity out of her mind and focused on the now.

His two dog-type pokémon led the way, and Suturi provided the light they needed to see where they were stepping. Aria kept her hand in Vex's, mostly for emotional support but a little for physical support as well. The absolute last thing she wanted to do right now was fall and land on her painful wrist. At least if she did trip, he'd have her other hand and be able to keep her on her feet. As they walked, Aria kept talking. She wanted to explain to him what happened, why she had gotten side-tracked, and why she hadn't thought to call. With her voice much less shaky from fear, she told him everything.

She explained that she had wandered a little too far into the jungle and found the ruins. "Before I could even turn around to head back, this little bird pokémon came down from the branches and ate food from my hand! With very little coaxing the Natu joined my team. I knew it was getting late so I left the ruins and was almost immediately cut off by some crazy psychic pokémon that was almost as tall as me! Vex, it spoke to me telepathically, like I heard its voice in my head! I was smart this time though, and called out Kaepora to help me. We battled it and caught it! It was crazy!" she ranted, stopping here and there to catch her breath and step over logs.

"By the time all that was over the sun was setting and I panicked. I knew I couldn't get caught in the jungle at night time so I ran, I just wanted to make it back in time and to be honest... I was scared." she admitted, and was glad it was dark enough that he couldn't see the embarrassment on her face. "I should have called, you're right..." she added, and trailed off. She squeezed his hand and hoped he'd forgive her. Next time, before she found herself injured and threatened by wild pokémon, she'd call.

The ruins had just become recognizable in the distance. The moonlight could shine brighter on the ruins since the trees were much less dense there. Relief swept over her again, realizing they had made it through the jungle without any other problems arising. And the Oranguru family was nowhere to be seen. Things actually began to feel calmer, although she wasn't sure if that was thunder she just heard in the distance or maybe it was her stomach growling...

As Aria recounted her adventures of the day, Vex listened quietly, commenting here or there but otherwise just letting her speak. He was pretty sure it was her way of explaining why she hadn't just called and apologizing for missing their date. By the time she finished her story, they were almost back to the ruins. "Sounds like you had an eventful day, making friends with a Natu and capturing a Kadabra." He commented with a shake of his head. Of course, his own adventures in the jungle were about as fun...like the time Siron had evolved and nearly burned the jungle down around them, meaning Vex had to call on Drissi's rain dance to put out the fires. He'd had to trek back to camp soaking wet and then found he hadn't had any extra of certain clothes with him so he'd had to just wait until he dried anyway. "You said it spoke to you though? I've heard that's really, really rare even for trained Psychic pokemon to do. What did it say?" If it had been trying to warn her or something it was worth knowing about.

Her admission that she'd panicked and that a lot of what had occurred was due to her fear of being in the wilds alone at night made sense. When he was younger and just starting to travel on his own, he'd always wanted to be sure he was sleeping in a pokemon center and not in some forest. But time and experience had all but erased any worries he had about spending a night or two in the wilderness by himself. "We'll have to work on your survival skills then. You're not always going to be able to make it back to a pokemon center or town every night. Panicking only gets you into more trouble." He told her, giving her hand a squeeze in return. "I'm just glad you're safe and relatively uninjured." Things could have turned out so much worse if he hadn't found her or of the Oranguru had a larger family unit nearby.

As they neared the ruins, he scanned the area for a good place to rest, amking a mental note of a rumbling in the distance. He wasn't sure if it was thunder, a wild pokemon, or just the rock of the ruins shifting under the press of time. If it was thunder, they needed shelter from the elements but nothing too enclosed since he'd need a fire to see by or else it would fill with smoke and not do either of them any good. He spotted a tumble of rocks where it looked like a wall had collapsed. He led her over to it and found that the wall opened up into some sort of small room. The entrance leading further into the ruins was blocked off by more rocks which meant no wild pokemon could sneak up on them from behind and the crumbled wall provided plenty of ventilation for a fire. It was a small space, likely for storage or something of that sort but it would do for the night. "This'll be good enough for tonight. Ryna, Inik can you find us some wood to use for a fire? Suturi, I need you here to provide light until they get back." He said, watching as the two canines departed into the nearby jungle to find wood. Suturi stayed nearby, light held as high as she could, and waited to see if she would be needed for more. He tucked his stuff away in the furthest corner of the room, where it wouldn't be in the way and wouldn't get wet if it rained. That done, he turned to Aria and Suturi. "Here, let me look at your wrist now that we're safe. I don't think I'll be able to tell if it's broken or just sprained but we can at least stabilize it right?" He questioned, going over some of the things Aria had taught him about field first said. Any potential break or sprain should be stabilized until they could get to a doctor if he was remembering right.

Aria knew she was ranting, but she was still a touch panicked and trying to explain everything that had happened to her. "I heard its voice in my head, it said not to walk any further. Maybe it was protecting me? Or maybe it was protecting something else..." her voice trailed off after answering his question. She remembered she didn't have to wonder anymore, all she had to do was ask Kadabra herself next time she brought him out. She shrugged, and squeezed Vex's hand as he brought up her survival instincts and how they needed work. "Ugh, understatement of the year right there." Aria teased herself, and rolled her eyes.

As they approached the ruins, Vex caught sight of a collapsed structure, a wall of some sort, and led her over to it. The way the boulders were stacked up on each other against the ruins made for perfect cover. Aria shivered when she heard another bout of thunder and rubbed her arm with her good hand. The air was much cooler now that the sun had set. They ducked into the empty space under the collapsed wall and Vex examined their surroundings. After setting his supplies down in the corner, he came back to Aria and asked about her wrist.

She smiled weakly, impressed that his first aid lessons were really sticking. He had offered to help stabilize her wrist, at least until they could get back to town and see a doctor. She nodded as he spoke, confirming that was the best course of action. She carefully lifted her supply bag from her shoulder and over her head, and set it on the ground in front of them. She knelt down with her legs bent and dug through her supplies, while elevating the injured wrist in the air. She found the wrapping material she was looking for, but realized she didn't have a splint or piece of wood to stabilize it with.

She stood and looked around, and then looked back at Vex. "Uh oh. We'll need something flat and sturdy, a piece of wood or something... to wrap over my wrist." she explained, and eyed the entrance to their shelter. They had finally gotten somewhere safe, she really didn't want to have to go back out there. Not to mention, it sounded like it was going to rain any minute now. Part of her wanted to give up and just wrap it anyway, but the wrap itself wouldn't give it enough support. It needed a make-shift splint of sorts to keep her wrist stable, and keep her from injuring it further.

"If we hurry, we might be able to find something before the rain comes..." she said, begrudgingly. Mentally preparing herself, she focused on the fact that she was safe and sound, and Vex was by her side now. They had found shelter, and once they found something they could use as a splint, she'd get patched up and they could finally relax. The exhaustion was catching up to her, for sure. All the adrenaline from earlier had long left her system, leaving her muscles sore and weak and with quite the headache. They were going to be fine, though. She made eye contact with Vex, hoping he'd come out with her and help her look for a splint.

Vexel Mitore (I left it this way in case we're still "getting caught in the rain" like we planned. Not sure if you still wanted to do what we talked about or change it up. If I need to make edits let me know! Otherwise... shirtless Vex, here we come! ^.~ lol!)

If the Kadabra had been blocking her path it was more than likely protecting something. And wild pokemon were protective of only certain things. Their territory, their family, and their food source. This close to the ruins it was probably a combination of those things. "It could be both. If it was trying to stop you there's probably a nest near here. By keeping you from finding the nest it kept the rest of it's colony from attacking you and kept you from attacking the colony." From the sounds of things the Kadabra hadn't attacked her, she'd made the first move. Interesting given the fact she didn't generally try to initiate battles. He'd ask her about it later. He laughed when she joked about her survival skills (or lack thereof) and gave her a light nudge with his elbow.

As Aria set her bag down and started looking through it, Vex helped Suturi position herself so that they could make the best use of the light from her stick until they had firewood for a fire. He also sent Drissi out to help the two canines since she could carry more than they could, it meant the group would hopefully be back before it started to rain. When Aria mentioned needing something sturdy to stabilize her wrist, he hummed thoughtfully and pulled his bag over as well. He hadn't brought much with him, a smaller pack with basic things he'd need for the night. Some granola bars, water, his first aid kit and other such things. He had his flashlight there but with Suturi around he hadn't needed it. But nothing that stood out to him as a potential support. He glanced outside, listening to the thunder, and shook his head. "No, we're not going out there in that. The pokemon will be returning with firewood soon enough, we can use one of the sticks they bring back." He told Aria, motioning for her to rejoin him and pulling up a search on his pokegear for makeshift splints. "You know more about how your wrist feels and what a break versus a sprain looks like. Does it feel broken or..." He trailed off and glanced toward his bag again.

Without explaining what had made him stop, he grabbed one of the bottles of water he'd set aside a moment ago and held it up to his wrist. "Who would've thought..." He said, setting the pokegear aside and turning to Aria's medical kit next, finding some scissors and gauze. "Well, it won't be perfect but I found instructions on how to use this as a splint or brace." He said, flashing her a triumphant smile and motioning Suturi a little closer so he could work. "Just give me a few minutes and we can get that wrist all bandaged up for the night." He told her, opening the bottle and emptying the bottle (after taking a drink and offering a drink to Aria if she wanted one), before setting to work cutting the bottle according to whatever instructions he'd found. When he had the vague shape of a wrist brace cut from the bottle, he used some of the gauze to pad the edges, taping it in place with a bit of Aria's medical tape so that it didn't shift and that it wouldn't cut her hand or arm if she shifted around too much. "Here, try this on. I'm hoping it'll work for the night. If not we'll figure something else out." He offered her the makeshift brace.

Feel free to assume Vex's pokemon returned while he was working and Aria set up the fire or something (Ryna could use ember to get the fire going etc). Not sure if she'd feel up to it or if she just wants to watch him work and let him handle starting the fire since she's down an arm, lol. Whatever works best for you. =)

Also, you may say that once Aria tried the brace on if it fit she walked Vex through the best way to wrap her wrist and I can pick up my post from that point and them needing to figure out something to use as a sling. ;D

When Vex told her they weren't leaving their cave, Aria felt relieved. In all honesty, she just wanted this disaster to be over, but she knew all they needed to do was stick it out until the morning. Once the fire was started and once her wrist was bandaged up, they could take it easy for the rest of the night. In the morning, they'd be headed back to town and all of this would be behind her. Vex began working on some sort of contraption, and even though she was curious about it she chose to stay quiet. She was tired, and she just wanted to sit down.

Just then, a blinding flash of light lit up the area and was almost immediately followed by a loud crash of thunder. Even though it startled Aria, she smirked. Most people in this situation would think things just got a lot worse, but not her. Thunderstorms relaxed her, helped her sleep, and helped her stay grounded in times of uncertainty. That earthy scent that always filled the air during rainfall filled the cave, and Aria knew it was a matter of seconds before the rain came.

A few large raindrops began to fall outside their enclosure just as Vex's pokémon rushed in. Both dogs had several decent sized sticks in their mouths, and Aria was proud of them even though they weren't hers. Still, she was around Vexel enough that she had bonded with his pokémon as well. As Vex cut at the water bottle, Aria praised them by giving each of them some good scratches behind their ears with her one hand. "Good job you two." she said softly, and let out a big sigh.

Vex was wrapping the ends of the makeshift splint with gauze and tape to cover up any sharp edges. Despite how exhausted she was, she still got butterflies in her stomach watching him. It made her smile, seeing how far he has come and how much he knows about first aid now. She was proud all around, especially for his creativity since he was somehow crafting a splint out of an empty water bottle. Mkay, stop staring, she told herself, knowing she needed to make herself useful instead of continuing to stand around. Bending down to a squat, she carefully picked up the sticks and buried them under her right elbow, careful not to move or touch her wrist. She stood, and asked Vex where he thought the best place to set up the fire would be.

The raindrops turned into a downpour as she worked on setting up the fire. Once the sticks were nicely stacked in a sturdy cone shape with plenty of starter pieces underneath, Aria asked Ryna for a little help getting it started. The houndour had no problems conjuring up a small flame and spitting it out onto the sticks. Within a few seconds, their little cave lit up and was gently glowing with warm flames. Aria stayed put for a few moments to let the heat warm her back up. By that time, Vex had finished crafting his splint and came over to help place it on.

"There should be another roll of gauze in the side pocket if you need it." she said as he walked up to her. "You'll want to do a single layer of wrap first, then press the splint on, and finish wrapping it up with the splint inside. The first layer helps to keep it from rubbing." she explained, knowing the process was pretty self explanatory but still wanting to walk him through it. She held out her hand, and even though Vex was very gentle with his hands, she still winced when the gauze rolled over her wrist. She grit her teeth, but there was already enough swelling in her wrist that it felt pretty numb anyway.

As Vex finished the cast and ended it with a piece of tape, Aria gave him a nod of approval. "Not bad, Vex!" she praised, holding up her wrist and examining it closely as if grading his work. She smiled widely and looked into his eyes. In that moment, a wave of emotion came over her and with her arm still elevated, she stepped in and kissed him. She pressed her lips to his for a good few seconds, not wanting to pull away. This guy had saved her life just now, and was continuing to provide medical care, shelter, and warmth to her. She just couldn't believe she was so lucky to have him.

Another flash of lightning lit up the cave. She pulled back, falling back onto her heels from her tippy toes, but stayed pressed up against his chest with her good arm around his waist. "You are amazing, Vex..." she said with a heavy sigh, and smiled. "Thank you... for coming to my rescue. And for getting me all patched up." She could feel the heat in the cave now, whether that was from the newly lit fire or from how close they were all of a sudden.

As the rain began to fall, Vex glanced up from his work. Sure enough, a few second later, Ryna and Inik came scrambling in with large sticks clamped in their jaws. Drissi trailed behind some, enjoying the feel of the rain on her skin, though she was sure to deposit her offering of firewood inside where it wouldn't get soaked before making herself comfortable outside. Ryna and Inik were happy to receive praise from Aria but both still turned to Vex expectantly. "Great job both of you. I'm a little busy at the moment but you'll both get treats as soon as I'm done okay?" He received two happy barks and the pair turned back to Aria, picking up any sticks she couldn't manage. "Hmm? Oh, how about over there? It'll be out of the way enough that the rain won't douse it but the smoke can still escape through the opening." He said indicating a spot to the side of the opening but still sheltered by what remained of the wall. With the fire started and Vex finished with his project, Suturi stored her stick back in the bushy fur of her tail and moved over to warm herself by the fire.

At Aria's suggestion of another layer of gauze, Vex searched in her bag until he found it, noting that he was using the last of her supplies. Had she lost something? Or used some but hadn't yet replaced it? He wasn't sure but if she needed some sort of sling they were out of luck since she probably didn't have one. He winced when Aria did, giving her an apologetic look. "Sorry. I'll try to be careful." He told her, doing his best to get the bandages wrapped securely but not too tight.

When he finished the bandages and Aria looked over his work, he felt nothing but relief that it was over with and he hadn't caused her too much pain by trying to help. Before he could say anything to her evaluation of his handiwork, she'd stepped closer to him and stood on her tippy toes to kiss him. He wrapped his arms around her to hold her close and returned the kiss, ignoring the chorus of amused sounds from his pokemon. When she finally pulled away, he smiled down at her. "Didn't we already go over this?" He joked lightly, brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face as he spoke. Vaguely it occurred to him that if he recalled his pokemon it would be just the two of them out there...alone. Another clap of thunder and flash of lightning interrupted his thoughts and he shook his head, pushing the thoughts away as he stepped back. "I need to get the pokemon their treats and then we should try and get some rest." He said, hoping to cover up any awkwardness or hurt feelings over his sudden reluctance to remain in Aria's arms. At hearing the word treats, Ryna, Inik and Suturi all perked up from where they'd made themselves comfortable by the fire. Hoping to avoid any questions (or a repeat of the unexpected kiss and following emotions) he scooped up his pokegear from where he'd left it laying and moved over to his bag to get his pokemon their promised goodies.

She thought she sensed a feeling of longing, possibly even with a hint of lust in his eyes, before he turned away and continued to prepare for the night. He organized some things while Aria used her good hand to put away the remaining medical supplies. She smiled and watched his pokémon gather around him, waiting patiently for their treats. Then she continued to search through her bag for some sort of sling. If it hadn't been so late into the night, she probably would forgo the sling since she'd be awake and careful. However, since they were about to try to sleep, she didn't want to roll over onto it while she was asleep or something.

"Vex, do you have any rope, or string, or anything? I know you don't have your bag on you so probably not... I'm just trying to find something to use as a sling maybe, just for while we're sleeping..." she asked, half to Vex and half talking to herself. After this little endeavor they'd need to restock her supplies for sure, and a sling was definitely going on the list. Her supply bag almost always had everything she'd need in an emergency... for pokémon. Nothing says she couldn't get a sling for a pokémon.

When searching through her bag produced zero results, she walked over to the entrance of their shelter and looked out into the rain. There might be some vines back outside the ruins, they were in a jungle after all. That required one of them to run out into the rain, though, and with a cast around Aria's wrist that excluded her. Bandages must be kept clean and dry at all times. She shook that idea from her mind about as quickly as it had entered it. Oh well, she'd made due for now, it was no big deal if they couldn't find her a sling. She shrugged and turned back towards Vexel, and wondered how they were going to settle in for the night. Maybe on their jackets? Use her bag as a pillow maybe?

Vex wasn't sure what Aria was looking for as he handed out the treats he'd promised his pokemon and praised them again for all their hard work. He left them out of their pokeballs to act as lookouts through the night. The last thing they needed was to be ambushed by some wild pokemon while they slept. When he finally stood from what he was doing, Aria questioned him about rope or something that would work as a sling overnight. "No. I brought water and a bit of food but that's about it." He said, offering her an open granola bar. "I know it's not a nice Italian dinner with tiramisu for dessert like I promised but at least it's something to eat." He told her, giving her an apologetic look. He'd have to make up this disaster of a date for sure. They just had to survive the next couple hours first.

When she moved to look outside, he shook his head and pulled up the results of his previous search on his pokegear. He was pretty sure he'd seen something about makeshift slings in there. Sure enough, he pulled up a page that detailed several possibilities including belts, scarves and even a t-shirt. Since they didn't have a belt or scarf and Vex wasn't about to ask Aria to remove her shirt (he wasn't sure if she had a spare on her), he set the pokegear aside and pulled off his own. He lightly brushed the scars across his chest with one hand as he eyed the instructions for how to make a sling of out a shirt. Of all the many things he and Aria had talked about since they'd met he was pretty sure he had never mentioned having scars or how he'd gotten them. But this was the only way to ensure Aria's wrist didn't get injured any worse before they got back to a doctor.

When Aria finally turned back toward him, he was bent over his shirt, carefully cutting along one seam until he could lay the fabric mostly flat. He folded it diagonally and, sure enough, it looked enough like a sling to work for the evening. "Google is a fascinating thing. I think you can find an answer to just about everything if you know where to look.: He told her, holding up his creation. "This better work or I am going to be really disappointed that I cut my clothes up for nothing." He told her, more to cover his embarrassment than anything else. He normally didn't feel all that self-conscious about them but with Aria he did. "Come on, let's get this on you and then we can try and rest." He told her, stepping forward and helping her adjust the sling so that it was secure but comfortable. Once they had it in place, he stepped away and crossed his arms over his chest in a way that made it clear he was trying to hide the scars he knew full well that she'd just seen while he was helping her with the sling.

As much as Aria loved to eat, in this very moment she just didn't feel much like eating. She declined the granola bar with a weak smile and shake of her head. It was probably a stupid move, she knew, but between the aching in her wrist and her head, she just couldn't. They'd be back tomorrow and she'd see a doctor and all would be back to normal, then she could eat. Vex reminded her that they'd had dinner plans for the night, and Aria frowned. "Awwww, it's okay Vex! This is not your fault, it's mine. I owe you a fancy dinner after all this..." she offered with another weak smile.

Only the sound of the heavy falling rain echoed inside the shelter, as Aria scanned their surroundings and Vex messed with some belongings behind her. She had seriously considered just a quick run out into the trees to grab the first rope-like plant she could find. The sooner her wrist was stabilized, the sooner they could get settled in, and the sooner the night would be over. A cool breeze from the storm rushed in, causing her to shiver again, so she turned to head back over towards the fire. Vex had taken off his shirt, and was cutting it wide open. "What are you doing?" she asked, concerned about him and his clothes. Wouldn't he get cold tonight?

He answered light-heartedly like he does, joking about how disappointed he'll be if he cut up his shirt for nothing. He stood and faced her, holding out his creative make-shift sling. She couldn't help but grin, what a crafty boyfriend she had! Her eyes sparkled and she stepped forward, closing the distance between them. She held up her arm so he could slip the end of the sling around her neck. As he pulled the fabric over, she placed her good hand on his chest, noticing the scars now that they were closer and he was facing the fire. As he shifted the sling to fit her arm comfortable, she gently traced the scars with her fingertips. "I... I've not seen these before..." she said softly, with a curious tone.

Lifting her chin to look into his eyes, she smiled softly again. "May I ask what happened? You don't have to tell me right now, if you'd rather wait..." she added, knowing that the situation they were in was not the most ideal. She let her hand drop back down as she examined the sling, which was working absolutely perfectly. "Oh my goodness, that's much better! It hurts a lot less now that I'm not constantly holding it up! Thank you!" she said, and began looking for a way to set up whatever sleeping area they could come up with. Their bags were in a pile against the wall, so she stepped over and sat down, leaning back against them. She looked at Vex and patted the dirt next to her, inviting him over. Maybe once they got comfortable he'd tell her his story.
