NARIKO "RIRI" AKIYA
NINETEEN ■ FEMALE ■ GYM TRAINER
Nariko better known as ‘Riri’ is a fairly short girl at only 4’11. Quite a lot shorter than most of her sisters. She has thin and sharp brown eyes and pale toned skin, except for the red blush across her cheeks.
Riri has charcoal black colored hair and she keeps her hair tied up in two large pigtails. Several thick locks hang down over her forehead and across her face. Riri is known for her enraged temperament, often shown by her typically constant glare or menacing words. Sometimes her face can be seen as unexpressive or impassive.
Her usual clothing choice is a black furisode, a style of kimono known for its long sleeves which usually hang down to below her eyes. On each of the sleeves and also on various other parts, such as the collar and belt are dyed a deep crimson red color. The rest of the outfit is completed by a pair of black knee-high socks and black flip-flops with a red bow. Her Pokéball are kept, tied onto to her belt.
Riri is bold and adventurous with a stubborn and sarcastic wit. She can often be quite cynical, rude or aggressive towards people she doesn’t know or rather doesn’t want to know. Because of this, Riri has a difficult time opening herself up to people. She is cynical, and a prideful girl who is easily made angry or upset. Nariko cannot stand when people point out her height or think she is younger than she is. However, she is not afraid to speak her mind and is often considered foul-mouthed because of her somewhat rude attitude toward people and lack of social skills.
Her combative personality makes it difficult for her to make friends or be around people who are silly and make things into jokes, especially ones at her own expense – in which she takes the joke as criticism which then leads to anger. She tends to not be in the habit of not expressing his needs and feelings finds himself in situations throughout his life where she feels overshadowed, overlooked, or even stepped over by others. Riri prefers to simply deal with life as it comes, often by shouting at it. She is highly practical, although distrustful by nature. She holds people she cares for at arm's length.
Deep down within herself, she is troubled, lonely and often reckless at times. Behind her independent and violent demeanour lies a fragile being. Although she hides her fears well, when confronted by them she tends to break down. Also, Riri has absolutely little to no sensitivity or consideration, when talking or acting upon others.
Riri was born and raised in Hinoki City, a town deep down in the mountains. Nariko lives with her Grandmother and her younger Sister, Momo at a Japanese-style Tea Shop. Each day, they would perform a classic and Japanese Tea Ceremony which anyone would be allowed to attend.
Her parents are divorced and live as far away from each other as possible. Nariko and Momo’s father left when they were still babies being unable to handle two children and ran away from it all. Whilst her mother who also remarried but has a whole new family, also left – choosing to live in Hoenn, a different region completely. As such, Riri and Momo were left in the care of their maternal Grandmother. Alongside the three of them, the Hinoki Tea House also had two other employees, Rosalie. A Trainer from a Sinnoh with a Cherrim and Meriel, a Trainer who trains Water Type Pokémon and has a Milotic. Their grandmother owned an equally elderly and lazy Purugly. Riri was given her first Pokémon on her eleventh birthday. A Zorua, A trickster and proud Pokémon. Momo was also given a Pokémon, a Swirlix.
It was a general rite of passage for the family and was something that their grandmother had done as well as their mother. They’d have to go up to the Shrine and pray to the gods. Once completed, they’d be rewarded with their Pokémon. For the next eight years, Nariko would help with the Tea Shop happily enough. Although, she would see trainers in the streets outside and wish she could join them. A lot of the time she would see trainers going in and out of the Gym – either with victory or sadness on their faces. Every so often, Riri would leave the town and go into the surrounding mountainside. She would practice battling on her own.
One day, she would meet an injured Fennekin in the mountains. It was weak and needed immediate medical attention which Riri had been taught by her fellows at the Tea Ceremony. After giving it aid, it ran away again back into the forest near the mountains and disappeared.
Although, they’d meet again the next day. It was waiting for her at the base of the tall oak tree in which Riri did her battle practice with a bunch of berries which is decided to give her as a gift. Taking this as a hint, she decided to ask if the Fennekin wanted to join her which it did.
Finally, with much more practice behind her. Riri confronted her Grandmother as well as her Sister and fellow Employees that she wished to become a Pokémon Trainer. Surprisingly, she was given permission to leave, as it was clear that was best for her and was a goal. Riri would join as a Gym Trainer of the local gym which trainer her favorite types, Fire, Psychic and Dark.
♦ Riri enjoys Japanese Style food. Her favourite being Yakisoba.
♦ Her favourite types are Fire, Psychic and Dark.
♦ Riri is frightened by Thunderstorms although she'd never admit it.
