Sycamore Springs was a place Jae rarely visited. The hot springs here was the main reason to visit the town, but most of Jae's Pokémon weren't fond getting their paws wet. (Besides, many of his Pokémon were electric-types or knew electric-based moves.) But today he was here because of work, and he wasn't headed towards the hot springs.

The midday heat was more intense than he had anticipated. Shrugging off his green flannel shirt, he unrolled and tied the sleeves around his waist. Belatedly he regretted his decision to wear jeans today, but at least the white printed tee was a good call. Plus, his destination wasn't too far away, so he should be able to arrive before he became a sweaty mess.

And of course, before one of his companions threw a tantrum.

Shinhwa sulked as he trudged diagonally behind his trainer, careful to stay within Jae's shadow. As they rounded a bend, the Alolan Vulpix adjusted his position relative to Jae accordingly as the shadow shifted to the other side instead. Tahiti trailed just behind her friend, partly because she wanted to stay in the shade as well, but mainly because of the aura of cool air that surrounded Shinhwa.

The presence of his best buddy did little to lift Shinhwa's mood though. If there was one thing the Vulpix hated, it was the sun. If he had known that they were going to walk to their destination, he would have opted to stay inside his Poké Ball.

"Regretting your choice now, eh?" Jae teased, and for his effort he was rewarded with an icy side-eye glare. The Vulpix was too prideful to go back into his Poké Ball now. He would rather endure the heat than reverse his decision.

"Don't worry. It's just up ahead." Jae pointed, and sure enough, both fox Pokémon could see a building not too far away in front of them. The blue tiled roof shimmered under the sunlight, and the well-kept garden looked like a great place to run around and play in. "Come on!" Jae beckoned for his Pokémon to follow as he quickened his footsteps, and they broke into a brisk trot to keep up.

As they reached the driveway proper, the trio slowed down, and Jae looked around for the owner of the compound. He or she was nowhere in sight, so he called out, "Hello? Is anyone in?"

Things were well on their way to becoming exactly what she'd dreamed it would be. The interior was almost completely done being renovated, the garden was coming along nicely, and the pens and shelters had all been cleaned out. Some of her rescue pokémon had already made homes there, most of them asleep in their shelters where it was cool. The barn was where most of the work still needed done. Although she didn't mind the random strewn about piles of hay, their only purpose was to block your way between the door to the house and the big sliding barn door. Currently, her goal was to at least get them into neat piles along the walls and corners to provide a walkway.

With thick garden gloves covering her hands up to her elbows, and a pitchfork, she shoveled the hay around the barn into this pile and that pile. Her work sneakers were caked in mud simply from walking around the barn, and her jean shorts were dirty on the front where she kept wiping her hands. Her hair would normally be down past her shoulders, but it was so hot today she had thrown it up in a messy ponytail. She whistled a soft tune that resembled one of the songs she had playing on her pokégear radio, which was nestled into the front pocket of her shorts. This explains why she didn't hear the visitor that had walked up on the property until they spoke up.

Her whistling stopped. "Hello?" she responded, not able to see through the barn windows because they hadn't been cleaned yet. She stabbed a nearby haystack with the pitchfork, leaving it standing up vertically, and hurried around the corner outside the barn doors. As she rounded the corner, she nearly bumped into them. "Oh! Sorry! I didn't hear you come up!" she gasped, taking a step backwards to give them back their personal space. "I'm Aria, nice to meet you!" she said, holding out a hand to shake. "How can I help you today?"

A prompt response from someone inside the barn saved Jae from having to stand awkwardly at the gate and say 'hello' repeatedly. Within a few moments the owner of the voice appeared: a dark-haired woman dressed appropriately for the weather and the work she was doing. Judging from the garden gloves, her ponytail, and the mud on her shorts and sneakers, Jae guessed that she had been hard at work when he interrupted her.

(In the meantime, sensing someone approaching, Tahiti swiftly disguised herself to conceal her true nature. By the time the woman appeared, she would only see two Alolan Vulpixes standing beside their trainer.)

Jae took the proffered hand. "I'm Jae. It's a pleasure to meet you." He pointed to her garden gloves as he continued, "It seems that you're quite busy at the moment. I hope I'm not getting in the way of your work."

He produced a name card and handed it to Aria. It was a formality, but one that Jae felt was important considering he had essentially dropped by unannounced. "I'm a deejay from Ironwood Radio. We heard that there was a new Pokémon rescue and rehabilitation centre in Sycamore Springs, and we thought it was something we would like to share with our listeners. So I'm here to find out more, and if you're agreeable, we could help to raise awareness about what you're doing."

As the young man introduced himself, Aria looked him over. He was young, maybe in his early twenties like she was. He had dark hair and wore a white shirt and jeans. He looked just as hot as she was, with an extra shirt tied around his waist, and she was the one working in the barn. It was a hotter than normal day for autumn, and the sun was still high in the sky as it was only early afternoon. As he handed her his business card, she took it like she was supposed to but didn't look at it yet. Instead, she smiled politely and before answering him, held out a hand towards the front door. "You know what? It's scorching out here, why don't you come inside and cool off?" she asked, not feeling bad for ignoring his introduction because she'd get right back to it once they were out of the heat.

Without another word, she led him to the front door of the facility and inside. A refreshingly chilly wall of air-conditioning hit them as they stepped inside. As soon as she shut the door behind him, she instantly shed her work gloves and shoes onto the floor mat. They were in the reception area, or at least that's what it was going to be when it was finished. The renovations were going well and on schedule, but the walls were still only drywall and needed painted. The front desk and benches were already in place over the brand new grey tiled floors, and an office-style water cooler with paper cups sat next to the front door. "Help yourself!" Aria said, motioning towards it as she grabbed a cup of water for herself.

After she gulped down the glass in one quick motion, she studied the business card. "Nice to meet you, Jae!" she began, and then responded to his introduction all at once. "No, you aren't getting in the way of my work, no worries! It's nice to finally start having visitors. I am surprised word is spreading so quickly, people in Ironwood have already heard, huh?" she laughed, and looked up at him with sparkling eyes. "Getting some more awareness would be... amazing, actually! We're not technically open to the public just yet as you can see," she explained while motioning around the room, "but the remodeling is right on schedule and we should be fully-operational by the first of next month."

"Would you like to sit? Or would you like a tour first?" she asked, knowing they've only had a minute to cool off and not minding if he wanted to stay here for a little longer. Despite being sore already from the physical labor, she was more than excited to have her first visitor. Hearing that word has already reached as far as Ironwood City was pretty cool, and she was of course up for getting more exposure. The place was coming along, that's for sure. More and more she was convinced she had made the right choice, choosing this location here in Sycamore Springs.

As Aria invited them to go indoors, Tahiti – still disguised as an Alolan Vulpix – let out a little squeal and started towards the door of the building, more delighted to be out of the summer heat than the actual ice fox Pokémon. Whether it was an act or not was debatable, for unlike Shinhwa she was not cloaked in an aura of cool air. "Yea, that'll be great," Jae said gratefully. "Don't mind Tahiti, that's just the way she is," he added, watching the disguised Zorua as she happily trotted ahead of them.

The trio followed the lady into the building, and they were immediately greeted by the chilly air. Jae could tell that Shinhwa's mood was noticeably better now, for both fox Pokémon were already starting to explore their new surroundings. Shinhwa treaded carefully, sweeping a critical gaze across the unfinished interior of the reception area, but Tahiti didn't seem bothered at all as she curiously investigated the drywall, having never seen anything like that before. In the meantime, the young man thanked Aria before helping himself to a cup of refreshing water, and after that he refilled the cup and called for his two Pokémon to have a drink too

Now that they were in a much more comfortable environment, they could continue with the introductions. The deejay smiled as Aria mentioned how surprised she was that people in Ironwood City had already heard about her rescue and rehabilitation centre. "Good news travels quickly, I'd say people are excited that there's a new rescue and rehabilitation centre," Jae replied. "It's also close enough to a variety of biomes," he added, remembering that a mudslide had struck the Gingko Mountains not too long ago, and rescuers had to travel quite a distance to the nearest Pokémon rehabilitation centres. "If there are any injured Pokémon, they can be brought here a lot more quickly too."

He nodded as Aria revealed the projected date where the centre would be fully operational. "That's pretty soon, isn't it? We usually give our audience a heads up a few days in advance so they have some time to plan a visit before the centre officially opens."

"If it's okay with you, a tour now would be great." While the air-conditioned interior of the building was comfortable, he didn't want to waste Aria's time and make her wait for him. "Before I get too comfortable in here and refuse to leave entirely," he added jokingly, before he noticed that both his Pokémon were giving him the baby-doll eye treatment as though they were trying to convince him to linger a while longer in the cool comfort of the reception area.. "Actually, we might be too late already…" he surmised.

The stranger's pokémon were amusing, happily joining them inside and exploring their new surroundings. It was hard not to watch them explore, not only because Aria loved pokémon in general but she also wanted them to be careful and stay within view. Sure, the renovations were well on their way, but the place was still unfinished. There could be stray nails on the floor or tools strewn about. Although she didn't see anything nearby, she still worried. Her eyes darted between Jae and his pokémon while he spoke, and she hoped he didn't notice too much.

"Oh goodness, well I'm glad to hear they're excited! The variety of habitats around this area certainly affected my decision to buy this place, but like you said, there isn't really a rescue or rehabilitation center out this way. I tried to pick an area that could really use one, not just another populated city, you know?" she explained, her voice a little higher pitched than normal due to the excitement. Her eyes widened and she nodded when he inquired about the opening date and it approaching quickly. "Yep, it's pretty soon! But we're just about ready, I know it doesn't look it from here."

Shortly after she said that, he agreed to the tour. If he was going to be advertising her facility and services over the radio, she wanted him to be confident that she not only had a sparkling brand new place, but all of the modern, necessary equipment she'd need to run it. "A lot can be done in a week, especially when you have nothing else going on. This is my dream, and I'm giving it my all..." she explained, trailing off when he addressed his pokémon. The cute little silver Vulpix were set on staying inside in the air conditioning. Aria giggled, and gave them a nod. "How about this, we'll start off with a tour of the inside!" she laughed.

Already being introduced to the reception area, she led Jae and his pokémon through a set of double doors. The doors opened up into a wide hallway with several rooms branching off and the same brand new grey tile continued from the reception area. She held the door for them as they stepped through, and then took the lead again. "Immediately to the right is the pharmacy and laboratory. The room stretches along the hallway and the door at the back goes into the ICU. On the left are three exam rooms, where trainers can wait in private if their pokémon is in critical condition." she explained, and glanced down at the two Vulpix to make sure they were following along.

"We have a diagnostic room with a brand new radiology system, it takes xrays from the table or you can lower the screen and use the attached probe for ultrasound. I'll try not to get too in depth with the medical talk, just wanted to show off our fancy equipment." she said with a laugh, puffing up her chest real proud-like. She showed Jae and his companions the surgery suite, isolation ward, and storage room before finally reaching the back of the building. "And here is where the magic happens!" she said, before opening another set of double doors into the large back room.

The intensive care unit was a large, white room with stainless steel tables and cabinets full of supplies. Little kennels with blankets lined the back wall, and to their right were the much larger kennels for much larger pokémon. "You're probably wondering why the ICU is so far in the back, huh?" she asked with a playful smile. "Well, those other double doors lead right into the barn. Once I finish cleaning it out, as you saw me doing, you'll be able to drive right up to these doors. A critical pokémon will go straight from the car into the ICU and get treatment started as soon as possible. Plus, it's better to keep the public up in reception and out of harms way, should things get loud or ugly..." she said, trailing off again. She didn't want to scare the little silver foxes at their feet.

This was a good moment to pause and not only catch her breath, but give Jae a chance to ask any questions if he had any. This was it as far as the interior, the rest of the tour would take place outside. She had just about cooled off entirely, but wasn't sure if he or his pokémon were ready to brave the heat again. "How do you like it so far?" she asked, feeling pretty proud of everything still. This was no hospital that some corporate built. She designed it, everything from the tile floors to the layout and the easily accessible ICU. She wanted to explain to him that she interned at a critical care specialist facility back in Kanto, and that's why she had the knowledge to customize her own facility the way that worked best... but she didn't want to ramble. If he wanted some background information on her as the owner, he'd ask. For now, she wanted to focus on the building itself. That's what would attract the general public, not her history.

((OOC: I figured since the mudslide is canon, I could build a little upon it :D By the way, I belatedly realised that Shinhwa legitimately knows Baby-Doll Eyes but Tahiti doesn't. That means she's using that move through Copycat. Indeed, the Zorua is a sly fox :3 ))

Though the rescue and rehabilitation centre looked, according to Aria, far from finished, Jae was confident that it would be open by the scheduled date. Having worked in a nightclub that was open for business every day (or more accurately, every night), he knew that a lot of work could be done in a short amount of time. And that was what Aria said as well, to which he nodded in agreement.

He realised that he had inadvertently interrupted Aria when he got distracted by his fox Pokémon. "Sorry," he apologised sheepishly, and he was going to scoop them up in his arms when Aria suggested touring the interior of the facilities first. Shinhwa's ears perked up, while Tahiti showed her enthusiasm more openly by yipping in delight. "I guess that settles it," Jae concluded, and with that the tour of the facilites began.

Thanking Aria as she held the door, Jae followed his Pokémon as they entered a wide hallway. Fishing out a tiny notepad and pen from his pocket, the deejay began taking down some notes as Aria introduced to them where the various rooms were. At the same time he kept an eye on his two Pokémon: this was a new and exciting place, perfect for exploring and playing hide-and-seek. To their credit, they generally stuck close to Aria, at most venturing a short distance away to investigate something but always trotting back to rejoin the group.

Aria must have noticed Jae's blank expression and word-for-word blind scribbling when she talked about the radiology system, because she was keeping her explanation simple and short for a completely layperson like him. "Don't worry about the technical jargon," he assured Aria. "I'm sure there are medical experts among the listeners who would be interested in the details. Besides, I can always ask and clarify if I have any doubts."

And he did have a question for Aria, but he decided to reserve that for later after he had seen the rest of the medical facilities. One by one, he checked off the list of medical facilities on his tiny notepad as the tour continued: the surgical suite, an isolation ward, and a storage room. Only one item at the top of the list remained.

It seemed Aria had saved the best for last. "And this is where the magic happens!" she declared, as she opened the set of double doors before them, revealing the intensive care unit: a large room with stainless steel tables, medical cabinets, and kennels that lined the wall on the far end. There was another set of double doors. Jae guessed it was probably the main entrance to the intensive care unit, a hunch that was confirmed by Aria. He nodded as she explained the rationale behind the layout of the facility. But at the mention of things getting 'loud or ugly', Tahiti turned a little paler (if that was even possible, given her current disguise). She was always a little squeamish about things like that. "I see…" Jae began, trying to look at the matter from a different, less scary perspective. "I presume that also helps to segregate the Pokémon from the noisier reception area so they can rest in a quieter environment?"

Too late. For a split second Tahiti lost her focus and her tail briefly reverted back to its original appearance before taking on its disguised form again. Did Aria notice anything? Covertly Tahiti stole a glance at the lady, hoping she hadn't realised what had happened.

In the meantime, Jae was taking a moment to process all the information. For someone with next to no knowledge in medicine, it was all very new and fascinating to him. "Everything looks great so far, especially how people can drive all the way up to the entrance of the ICU. The layout and design looks very well thought, and it's very intuitive even for a layperson like me." Pursing his lips, he carefully formulated his question before asking it. "Am I right to say that the facilities here are as comprehensive as what I'll find in a Pokémon hospital?" It certainly did look that way to him.

"The scale of this rescue and rehabilitation centre is larger than I initially thought," he added. "Would this place be run primarily by full-time staff or volunteers?" The deejay was confident that some of his listeners would be interested in helping out at the centre, should Aria require some extra hands to run the place.

But above all, what Jae was most interested in was the person behind the centre. Stories of people pursuing their dreams were always popular amongst the listeners, and Jae had a feeling there was an inspirational story behind why Aria had chosen to commit herself to such a massive undertaking. "And if you don't mind me asking… may I know what prompted you to establish a rescue and rehabilitation centre?"

At Jae's inquiry about the ICU and its location being far enough from the reception area, Aria nodded. "Yep! That's also a perk of having the ICU more towards the back." she answered. For a brief second, she thought she caught a glimpse of a change in color of one of the little Vulpix's tails, but when she glanced down she didn't see anything unusual. Jae's compliment snapped her attention back to him and she smiled. She watched as he took a look around and studied the equipment. She took a look around herself, still finding it unbelievable that they've accomplished so much in so little time.

"I suppose you could say that, yes! I've worked and volunteered in several hospitals in both Kanto and Eden. If a piece of equipment helps me help a pokémon easier or more efficiently, I want it." she explained, turning back to Jae and his duo and smiling. "There will be a handful of employees yes, I'll need a few hands on deck to help me out. However, we will always be grateful for volunteer work of course. I really hope that I provide an opportunity for students to learn here, like when I was in school. So I plan to have externship and internship opportunities as well." she added, "Plus, I won't always be here, I still hope to travel the region and help all the wild pokémon out there."

She ended up leaning against one of the ICU tables and then hoisting herself up to sit on top of it. She had been on her feet all day, and she hoped her company wouldn't mind if she took a seat for a moment. It felt good to sit down, and the throbbing in her heels instantly went away the second the pressure was taken off them. His next question was a more personal one anyway, and even though she had a lot to say about it, she knew he wouldn't want her entire life summary. For the sake of time, she'd figure out how to give him a brief history without ranting too much.

She took a moment to ponder and organize her thoughts before answering. "Well, I suppose a number of variables went into this decision. I've been a traveling pokémon nurse for almost two years now, and before that I worked in several critical care hospitals back in Kanto. I just never felt I was fulfilling my purpose really, I always felt I could do more. I came to Eden hoping to make a difference on a larger scale. During my travels I've come across a lot of injured or orphaned wild pokémon and realized they can't all stay with me!" she said with a laugh, "Not to mention, I met someone here in Eden and well... things have progressed." She lifted up her left hand quickly to flash her new engagement ring and then quickly dropped it, not wanting to show it off. Well, she kind of did.

"Anyway. I got the idea and just for fun I started looking at what was on the market, if there were facilities available, and what kind of price range I'd be looking at. This place caught my eye, so I called the realtor and next thing I knew, well... it was mine." she explained, smiling again. It all still felt like a dream. She glanced around the room again and then back at Jae. "By building a rescue and rehabilitation center, it not only provides medical treatment to sick or injured pokémon, it provides a place for them to stay, whether they are homeless or in recovery. Out on the road I ran into the problem where I'd bandage up and injured leg on a pokémon and then not know how to proceed. That bandage will need taken off in a few days, and what if they need antibiotics once or twice daily? They can't continue to receive the care they need out in the wild. So... I can bring them here, give them the full care they need, and then they're free to go or be adopted. To me, it's an all-around win.

For the general public who, like Jae, were unfamiliar with medical equipment, the most straightforward way to understand how comprehensive this rescue and rehabilitation centre was was to see if it met the standard set by existing hospitals. As Aria confirmed that and elaborated on her experience working and volunteering at various hospitals and her future plans, Jae nodded as he diligently jotted down some notes.

He smiled as she mentioned that she intended to have externships and internships. "That's fantastic," he agreed. If not for his internship at a radio station, Jae wouldn't be where he was today as well, and he knew how much he had benefitted from that rare chance. "You have extra pairs of hands to help you out, and it's a great learning opportunity for students and volunteers. And I believe that this arrangement will also raise awareness among the public that there are Pokémon who require our help. Not just injured Pokémon but those who need a new permanent home." And he nodded when Aria expressed her wish to travel the region and rescue more Pokémon. "There wouldn't be any Pokémon to rehabilitate if nobody's rescuing them," he replied.

Seeing his host settling down atop one of the tables, Jae glanced around and found a chair for himself. There was no short answer to his next question, and Aria was probably worn out after working hard for the whole morning. He listened attentively as she spoke, mostly silently nodding or gesturing to encourage her to continue without interrupting her thoughts and words. He did let out a sheepish grin when Aria mentioned how she could not possibly keep every Pokémon she rescued with her; off the top of his head he knew that at least three of his Pokémon were either injured or abandoned before he encountered them. And if the two eggs he was gifted with after emceeing at a Pokémon adoption drive were unwanted, that would bring the total number of adopted and rescued Pokémon under Jae's care to at least five. There would be absolutely no way Aria could take care of all of them by herself.

As it turned out, she wasn't alone in her current endeavour. "Not to mention, I met someone here in Eden and well... things have progressed," Aria revealed, as she lifted her left hand to show her engagement ring. "Congratulations!" Jae said as he beamed. "Your fiancé is a very lucky man." He thought of asking if Aria's fiancé was a fellow medical practitioner, but decided at the last moment to put that question to the very end of the session. Furthermore, seeing how she didn't want to dwell too much about it, she might not be keen to share such information with a complete stranger.

Aria continued on with her story, outlining how her idea was transformed into reality. Jae watched as the sparkle came back to her eyes again. "And it's an all-around win for everyone," he concurred. "Pokémon rangers, medical professions like yourself. And of course, Pokémon."

"It's a very noble undertaking, I must say," he continued. Like what Aria had said, she had felt that there was more that she could do. "Many people feel the same way too, I believe, but not everyone actually does something about it." Indeed, the rescue and rehabilitation centre they were in wouldn't have existed if Aria hadn't turned her ideas into something concrete. "Actually I've been thinking about how I can make a difference," he revealed, "but the only thing I'm good at is audio engineering and broadcasting." The former was a little too specialised to be of much use, but the latter was a different story. "So I'll stick with what I can do, and that is to bring your story out to the public, let them know that you're doing your best to make a difference, and that they can make a difference as well by volunteering. Or if they get inspired and want to do something bigger, then that's even better."

The tour thus far had been an eye opening experience for Jae, and he had learnt much about the workings of an emergency department. There was still the other half of the compound that he hadn't seen yet, and he didn't want to impose on her too much. "May I have a look at the outside?" Jae asked.

This surprise visit from a stranger was turning out to be extremely helpful and useful, and as they chat back and forth in the ICU she couldn't help the smile stuck to her face. It was the very first tour she'd given, and Jae was the very first new person to see it. Vex and the construction crews had obviously seen it, but Jae was the first new visitor, and giving a tour for the first time almost felt surreal. The two laughed and she nodded at his compliments, even blushing a little bit at the comment about Vex being a lucky man. What she really focused on though, was his comments about how she was making a difference. He was absolutely right, everyone wants to leave this world having left an impression, and a good one of course.

Their conversation finally seemed to be slowing, and before Aria could offer to continue the tour, Jae asked about the exterior. "Of course!" she said, before hopping down from the ICU table and hitting the floor with a thud. After glancing around the room and making sure Jae's pokémon were still in attendance, she turned towards the front door. "If you don't mind, let's head back to the front. It'll be easier on your bearings to give the tour from there." she explained and giggled. After Jae stood, Aria gently scoot the chair to the side to make room, and the group walked back down the main hallway into the reception area. Aria led them back out the front door.

Aria had forgotten all about the heat outside until she stepped out the front door. The humidity hit her like opening a preheated oven. There was somewhat of a breeze, which helped, but it was still very hot today. "Whew! Feel free to grab another cup of water on the way out if you'd like." she offered, turning back to face them. After the others stepped through the front door, she clicked it shut. "You've already seen the road and pathway. I hope to add a little bit of landscaping but that will probably be the last thing I do before opening." she explained. She turned to their right and rounded the corner, where the barn and pens were waiting.

As they rounded the corner, the attached barn came into view. A rough, dirt pathway in the shape of tire tracks led into the large barn door. Aria's hay rake was still sticking up from the first hay stack in the doorway. To the left of the barn was a short wooden fence that stretched out across the land. As they grew closer, a few other small wooden structures could be seen in the distance. "The pens are mostly finished as you can see, and each one houses a water trough and shelter with some hay. Some of my other rescues are already out soaking up the sun. Further down the hill is one of the rivers that runs through Sycamore Springs. I hope to eventually set up hydrotherapy down there." she explained.

She stopped for a moment at the barn, noticing that everyone was taking a look around. There wasn't much to see in there at the moment though, she was still working on getting the hay moved out. As she continued, a few pokémon hopped about in the grass in the first pen. A bright-green Natu flapped about, playing tag with a Mudkip. A dark-colored Meowth was sprawled out in the shade created by the wooden shelter. Aria smiled at them as they walked by. On the backside of the barn was more stacks of hay, a wheel barrel, and many other necessary pieces of farm equipment. Aria wasn't sure she'd use them, but she'd store them in the meantime just in case. They were now at the back corner of the building, and could look out onto the rest of the property. Grassy hills surrounded them, and sure enough down towards the bottom was a river.

((OOC: Apologies for the long wait >< Came back from my vacation to another public relations nightmare. Fighting fires at the office feels like battling a hydra: chop off one head, and it regenerates two..))

"Yup, that sounds good," Jae replied to Aria's suggestion about starting from the front of the compound. He waited for his fox Pokémon to walk ahead of him before they followed Aria back to the reception area. Oddly enough, both Shinhwa and Tahiti seemed pretty happy about the upcoming part of the tour even though they would need to be out under the hot sun…

… until Aria reminded him about the water dispenser.

The reason for the fox Pokémon's enthusiasm became apparent when they raced ahead to the dispenser and yipped excitedly, expecting their trainer to bring them each a cup of refreshingly cold water. Jae didn't know whether to laugh or feel embarrassed. Was it the only thing they remembered from the tour thus far? "Yea, I'll definitely need to get some water for these two thirsty foxes," he said, simultaneously feeling sheepish and amused by Shinhwa and Tahiti.

The cold water was gone in a flash, and they exited the building into the heat of the afternoon. Already, the cold water was turning into a distant memory. Shinhwa resumed his game of 'hide-in-Jae's-shadow', while Tahiti stuck close to the Alolan Vulpix as usual. He nodded as Aria talked about the road and pathway. Renovation works were still ongoing, so it made sense to wait till everything was finished before doing up the entrance.

Aria led them round the corner, and they could see the barn and the pens, as well as various farming equipment. There were already a few Pokémon in one of the pens: a Mudkip and a Natu were engaged in a game of tag, while a Meowth was comfortably stretched out under the shade of a wooden shelter. And beyond the pens, Jae could see the hills in the distance and the river that meandered lazily across the scenic landscape.

Prior to this, he had only seen rescue centres in urban areas, so this was a new and refreshing change from what he was used to seeing. "This looks absolutely splendid," he remarked. "There's so much space for the Pokémon to run and play, unlike many rescue centres in the cities." Granted, the Pokémon would be brought out to the nearby parks to play, but such opportunities were limited by the number of available volunteers. And the only rehabilitation centre that had the proper facilities for hydrotherapy for Pokémon was, as far as Jae knew, the Aquatic Pokémon Rehabilitation Center in Hibiscus Beach. "And setting up a place for hydrotherapy is just great. If memory serves there aren't enough places with dedicated hydrotherapy facilities for Pokémon. I'm sure the Pokémon would be happier and able to recover more quickly here."

Having grown up in Rustboro City and presently residing in Ironwood City, Jae was a city boy through and through, and he wasn't familiar with the work needed to run a place like this. An idea came to his mind. "This might sound a little crazy," he began cautiously, unsure of how Aria would react to his request, "but since I have nothing planned for the rest of the day and you look like you could use an extra pair of hands, is there anything I could help you out with?"

The idea sounded less and less crazy as Jae continued his explanation. "It's good for us to try things out firsthand so we can better understand the subject matter. I'll admit: I'm a city boy who's unfamiliar with the work needed to run this place, and I'm sure there are members of the audience who are like me, and are keen to find out what kind of work they will be doing if they choose to volunteer here."

((OOC: Ouch! So sorry to hear that Jae! =( I really hope things get easier for you. I really don't mind the wait, trust me! Things have been busy for everyone including me. Just happy to be RPing is all! ^.^))

Hearing the radio host's comments about how wonderful her sanctuary looked already, despite it not even being finished, made her heart swell. She wanted this more than anything else in the world: a place where pokémon could live, be safe, and be healthy and well-cared for. And her dream was coming true right before her very eyes. Having someone else gush over how good it looked was just so exciting and rewarding. She blushed and thanked him for his compliments.

She wondered for a few moments how pokémon rescues in the cities looked and worked. How did they handle the limited space? Some pokémon were very large, so would they be able to accommodate them and how? What about flying-type pokémon that needed to stretch their wings? Aria could only imagine how tricky it would be attempting to accomplish what she had in a busy city-like atmosphere. She couldn't do it. The gentleman's next question broke her train of thought, as he offered to help her with anything she might need.

"Oh goodness, you don't have to do that!" she blurted out instantly, feeling as though she could never ask a stranger to help with her personal chores. However, something crossed her mind that very moment after she said that. "Oh, actually... you know what? There is something I could use a second pair of hands for actually!" she exclaimed, and immediately turned towards the barn. Without even asking Jae and his pokémon to follow her, she began walking towards the barn entrance. As she walked in the large front door, she offered them a chance to grab more water if they needed to.

"I only have a few more hay bales to stack up in this corner, if you don't mind? They aren't that heavy but I'm pretty short, and I'm attempting to stack them to make more space on the ground. Lifting them above my head isn't easy." she joked, motioning to the bales of hay and her height compared to the stack she had made already. There were only six more bales of hay nearby, if he could help her stack them up high that would provide a lot more floor space. She wrapped her fingers around the twine of the first bale and lifted it before tossing it into the corner to start.

"I would normally have Vex here to help me, but he's off training or challenging a gym or something like that," she explained, with a laugh, "which is fine! He's a very dedicated pokémon trainer, one of the many things I love about him." As she leaned down to pick up another hay bale, she froze. Something was moving inside the hay, despite how tightly packed it was. Before she could react or give her visitor any warning, a pokémon burst out from the middle of the hay bale. Hay flew everywhere, and stuck to all of Aria's clothing and most of Jae's pant legs. Aria coughed and covered her mouth.

After the hay settled, a bright orange bird-like pokémon sat atop the pile of hay, chirping happily. "Taco! You naughty bird, you scared me!" Aria scolded lightly, her serious tone lasting mere moments before she burst into laughter. The little feathered Torchic chirped and hopped amongst the hay. "I apologize! As I'm sure you already know, every pokémon has their own charming personality and well, at a rescue you see all kinds. I call this little guy Taco. He's harmless. Oh, and up for adoption if you know anyone!" Aria explained, and ended the comment with a wink and a smile. She wasn't the type to pressure anyone, but mentioning the fact wouldn't hurt.

((OOC: Hope this is okay! I finally had a way to work in the Torchic you've been wanting AND mention Vex so that they can figure out how they both know him. XD Having a little too much fun with this post, hahaha! Let me know if I need to make any edits!~))

((OOC: That's a brilliant way to weave in both of them :D Anyway, I'm literally paid to handle PR nightmares, so it's just something I have to deal with.))

For a moment, Jae was worried that his offer would be turned down. He imagined that it would have been pretty awkward, but that situation was fortunately averted when Aria thought of something he could help out with.

Following his host into the barn, he could see bales of hay stacked up neatly at one corner, with a few more still lying on the ground. His guess was proved correct when Aria pointed out that it wasn't easy for her to stack the bales up, given her height. That was something he could identify with, having been pint-sized for much of his childhood until his delayed growth spurt finally kicked in. Nonetheless, he chuckled despite himself as he noted the disparity in height between Aria and the stacked bales.

Just as Aria had said, the bale of hay was lighter than expected. Easily lifting up a bale, he waited as Aria tossed the first bale to the corner before he set his down and went back for a second bale. "It must be tough stacking all these hay bales by yourself," he began, before he learnt that she normally had help from Vex.

Hold on… was she referring to the Vex he knew? "Vexel Mitore?" he asked, just to confirm his suspicion. He had a feeling that he was right, sinceAria's description matched him to a T. "In fact I just met him recently at the Ironwood Gym and—"

Without warning, something dashed out from inside one of the bales in a burst of hay, interrupting Jae mid-sentence. Turning his head to one side hastily, he swatted away the stray hay that flew towards his face. And when the hay finally settled, Jae could see who the culprit was: a cheeky little Torchic that was sitting on a hay bale, chirping merrily as though he was celebrating his successful prank.

Someone else might have been annoyed by the playful chick Pokémon. But to Jae, the Torchic was utterly adorable.

Jae always had a soft spot for Torchics; he had helped to take care of his brother's Torchic after his brother moved to Meteor Falls. "No worries," he replied. "This feels like déjà vu, I must say. A long time ago I used to take care of my brother's Torchic in his absence, so this is pretty familiar and brings back a lot of memories." He beckoned for the Torchic, who merely cocked his head to one side and studied him carefully. "Come here, little fellow. Don't be shy."

He was delighted to learn that the Torchic was up for adoption. "If it's alright with you, I'd love to adopt him," he proffered. "Provided he likes me enough to come home with me," he added with a laugh.

((OOC: Stopping the post here for now; Jae has a lot to say about Vex so I figured it might be better to put everything in the next post after we wrap up the adoption?))

To her surprise, her new friend was quite taken by the little trouble-causing Torchic. He was pretty cute, part of the reason why Aria adopted him in the first place. Youngjae wasn't bothered one bit by his antics, and in fact, was quite interested in him. At the mention of adoption, Jae spoke right up and stated he was interested. Aria grinned widely and her heart swelled. This was one of her most favorite parts of being a rescue, the excitement and fulfillment of pairing a homeless pokémon with a new trainer.

"Oh! Really??" she asked, surprised at how easy that was. The little orange bird chirped happily when the stranger beckoned for him. First, he shook his body and feathers to rid them of any stray strings of hay. Then, he hopped a few bounces across the half-exploded hay bale and onto the end of Jae's arm. His little talons hadn't been trimmed in a while, to Aria's embarrassment, but they didn't hurt. They only held on tight enough to keep him balanced. The Torchic stepped up Jae's arm to reach a more even level and gave another chirp.

"Well, it doesn't seem that liking you is going to be an issue." Aria laughed. "If you're sure you don't mind, he's all yours! Little guy's been lonely here at the rescue for a while." she added, feeling a little guilty she can't give every single pokémon staying at her facility the same amount of attention. He's not a mischievous pokémon normally, he's just a little cooped up right now. Having a new trainer would be like going on a new adventure for him, and that made Aria happy. She watched as the two said hello to each other.

Her brain caught back up to her and she remembered his comment about Vex. "Oh! Wait, did you say earlier you know Vex?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest and deciding to give up on moving the hay bales for now. She'd have to scoop up the mess Taco made before they could continue anyway. She wanted to hear more about how they knew each other. Eden was a fairly large place, but Aria did have to keep in mind that Vex travels a lot and meets a lot of people. Jae had mentioned the gym in Ironwood, so she guessed it wasn't really all that crazy that they had met. Still, how fun was this?

(Sorry it's short. After this post if you'd like, go ahead and take the Torchic finally! Let me know when you've added him to your profile and I'll remove him from the rescue page. Woo!)

((OOC: Apologies for the very long wait again D: I was prepping for my overseas military training plus clearing up as much work as possible before I leave.

Btw… one of the earlier concepts I had for Jae was a bird tamer, and Torchic was supposed to be his starter even though it's technically not a flying type. So I'm glad I finally got to adopt a Torchic for him :D ))

"I've always wanted to raise a Torchic of my own," Jae revealed. It was something he had always wished for after he helped take care of his brother's Torchic. "I've been looking around for one shortly after I arrived in Eden. I found out the hard way that they're a lot more common back in Hoenn," he added with a laugh.

Finally, Jae managed to sufficiently pique the Torchic's curiosity; the chick chirped and hopped closer, trusting the young man enough to hop onto his arm. Maybe he was a better bird tamer than he had thought; he was presently training a Pikipek and a Skarmory, though he knew he still had much to learn.

The chick's grip on Jae's arm was firm but not overly tight, a sign that he was relaxed and comfortable with this stranger. "You're pretty brave, aren't you?" he asked the Torchic as he stroked the chick's feathered crest, and in response the chick closed his eyes and let out a satisfied cheep. Spotting a couple of stray strands of hay, he deftly pulled them out and smoothed out the soft downy feathers. Secretly, he was quite pleased with himself: after all these years, he still remembered how to groom a Torchic.

His face lit up when Aria agreed to his request. "Thank you so much, Aria, for entrusting him with me," he replied. And as he turned back to the little chick Pokémon perched on his arm, he added, "There'll be no shortage of company at home, I promise."

Aria reminded him of the topic he was at when his thoughts were suddenly derailed by the Torchic earlier. "Oh yes," he answered. "I first met him almost a year ago; we have a 'Trainer Spotlight' segment on our breakfast show and he was our featured trainer of the week." His thoughts drifted back to that day as the memories came back to him. "He mentioned that he had just arrived at Eden about a week ago, and he was planning to challenge the Eden League. Back then I was a trainer at the Ironwood Gym so I was looking forward to meeting him again at the gym."

"We did meet at the gym eventually," he continued. A smile was creeping over his lips now as he recalled the amusing turn of events that day. "He had earned his first badge and he had his eyes set on his second. At that point in time, I had recently been appointed as the new leader of the Ironwood Gym, so we ended up battling against each other that night. That was something neither of us expected." He suddenly remembered about his bet with Vexel, and he added, "Coincidentally, Vexel had also met the leader of the Plumeria Gym prior to his challenge, and he didn't realise that she was a gym leader till he arrived at the gym. I said that I'd buy him a drink if he were to meet a third gym leader under the same circumstances. I have a feeling I just might lose that bet."
