The Summer Sun Celebration! Where trainers from all over Eden to celebrate summer by tanning under the sun, splashing in the waves on the shore, playing games at the boardwalk, listening to live music, and sipping alcoholic fruity drinks with little umbrellas. Sure, it was crowded and overwhelming, and the day after every inch of the beach was covered in trash and litter, but it really was a beautiful place to be.

Aria had just finished a confrontation with a new pokémon, a Lapras. She was now headed back towards the boardwalk so she could head back to her Inn. Only a few stray trainers were still on the beach here and there. Her pikachu, Arashi, hopped over the little sand mounds in front of her, running ahead to keep watch as usual. Something bright in the sand caught her eye, and she paused. "Arashi, hold on a sec!" she called out, and made sure he heard her before she bent over. It was probably just another plastic bottle, or mini umbrella.

It was bright purple, with shades of blue blended in the ridges along the top. She dug her fingers into the sand and pulled up a purple shell. It was unusually shiny, especially in the late evening sunlight. "Oooh, look at this!" she said, holding it down for Arashi to sniff but he ignored her. He was fixated on one of the nearby trainers, keep an eye out for any sign of a threat. Aria stepped over to the shallow waves and dunked the shell underneath to wash off the stray grains of sand stuck to it. With a smile, because purple was her most favorite color, she shoved it into her bag and continued.

Adrian was not the biggest fan of festivals, but he had a small soft spot towards the Summer Sun Celebration. It was the first big event he attended in Eden after arriving on its shores, nearly six months after arriving. Then, he thought he'd come a long way from where he began. Between that moment and now, the divide couldn't be greater. He was more confident in his goals as a breeder, and well on his way on becoming a champion. It was...surreal.

He was in such a state of mind that he shed his jacket. The faded leather hung from his arm, shades lighter than the far newer boots and black pants he wore. His white tee was untucked to combat the heat, keystone necklace evident as it dangled across his chest, the stone glittering rainbow in the sun. The breeder gazed at his colorful surroundings, lost in thought, contemplating whether he wanted to observe the festivities longer or stray further down the beach in search of privacy. Crowds weren't his favorite thing. Nor was sand. Actually, he hated sand with a passion, but many of his pokemon loved it. Including the sylveon that rarely left his side.

Connor practically danced around him. Thrilled with being oceanside again. Despite his hatred of the beach, he braved them regularly. This was one of the few times it was because he wanted to do so for himself.

"I bet some of the others would love a swim ," Adrian began, glancing down. He blinked. Connor was gone. Dark eyes were quick to leap up and the breeder groaned. Oh no...Not again. The sylveon was was daintily bouncing up to an utter stranger, trilling an enthusiastic greeting. One of her ribbons snaked forth and grabbed something out of the woman's open bag! The little thief..."Connor!"

Blue eyes turned on him with an all-too-innocent gleam.

"Put it back..." he grumbled, shoving his hands into his pockets and hurrying over to the scene of the crime. Why did she keep doing this to him? One would think she would have learned after the Caine incident.

She felt a slight tug on her side bag but ignored it, it was probably just the wind. However, when Arashi suddenly spun around to face her, she knew it wasn't nothing. "Chuuu!" he growled, hopping towards her with his ears and tail twitching. She glanced down at her bag, but nothing was amiss. What on earth has gotten into him all of a sudden? Then she heard a voice, and turned to see a trainer standing just a ways up the shore. The trainer seemed to be walking towards them, so maybe that's what Arashi was in a fuss about?

"Shhh!" she hushed him, embarrassed at his harsh behavior towards another trainer. She should be used to it by now, he was always protective of her, but she wasn't. When the trainer approaching was within earshot, she apologized. "Sorry, he's a little over protective." she said, holding up a hand to shush Arashi before he could say another word. He grumbled something to himself and took his place behind her legs, not wanting anything to do with the approaching stranger unless they were a threat.

Then she saw it. Right next to her leg was a bright pink and white pokémon, holding her brand new purple shell in its mouth. "Hey!" Aria blurted out. The pokémon had snuck into her bag while she was walking, and Aria barely even felt it. Now she understood what Arashi was on about! The pokémon didn't seem phased by her sudden 'hey' and Aria wondered if it was even worth trying to get the shell back. If it made the little pokémon happy, they could have it. She glanced back up at the trainer, assuming the pokémon belonged to him. "I'm guessing this one belongs to you?" she asked with a smile.

At least the young woman didn't appear offended. Even when she noticed Connor's presence a moment later. The little thief still hadn't put the stolen item back and was smugly standing there with the purple thing between her teeth. Adrian glowered. The sylveon hummed, unbothered by her trainer's expression or the pikachu's growl of disapproval. She feared very little and nothing about this situation sparked an ounce of uncertainty. With a shiny shell as a trophy, she tilted her head, ribbons floating around her as if in an unseen breeze.

"Drop it," Adrian snapped, his tone brooking no argument. His head was bowed, hiding the embarassment that no doubt betrayed itself on his face. Connor giggled. It was evident she found great amusement in this whole affair. "Connor..." A fluffy ear flicked and the sylveon let out a sigh. Fine. She'd give it back. Pulling the shell from her mouth with a ribbon, she offered to the trainer it was pilfered from. Adrian raked a hand through his hair and drew to a stop.

"Unfortunately, yes...she is mine."

His eyes narrowed. One of those tendrils was inching towards the ground...and the pikachu. His hard stare stilled the action before she could grab the poor pokemon's tail.

It was actually kind of a relief to see another trainer who was embarrassed by their pokémon. Aria was sure it happened more often than she knew, but she rarely saw it. She knew more than well how this guy felt, being embarrassed by Arashi all the time. She offered him an understanding smile. "It's okay, no harm done." she said, and laughed as the pokémon handed her the shell back with one of her ribbon-like extremities. Okay, that was actually quite cute. Even Arashi stepped out from behind her legs to peek at the pretty pink pokémon.

"She's super cute, what is she?" Aria asked as she took the shell, her curiosity getting the better of her. She had seen some evolutions of Eevee, which is what this pokémon resembled slightly, but she wasn't positive that's what she was. She was about the same height and shape as the ones she had seen though, so it was a good guess. This version had big bright turquoise eyes and her fur was a mixture of pinks and whites. She was quite adorable.

She glanced back up at the trainer, who seemed to be watching his pokémon like a hawk. It reminded her of the expression her dad used to have whenever he brought her to crowded places. He knew she'd run off if she saw anything shiny. "I'm Aria by the way. Were you out here enjoying the summer festival or are you from around here?" she added, feeling a little rude for not introducing herself yet. She held out her free hand, the one without the purple shell in it. The trainer still looked a little irritated but she hoped that was all aimed at his pokémon and not her or Arashi.

Adrian glanced up. The girl didn't know Connor was a sylveon. It took a moment to remember that not everyone researched pokemon in their spare time like he did. For a non-academic, he had a good head for his trade, which involved knowing a great deal about as many pokemon as possible, ranging from move sets to preferred foods to courtship behaviors. "She's a sylveon...an eeveelution," he said after a moment of silence. Connor chirped and danced to his side, practically wrapping herself around his leg. A ribbon snaked up to curl around his wrist, akin to a child hold their father's hand.

"...Adrian. And I am merely passing through," he accepted her handshake with professional curtness, grip not lingering. Adrian made to turn away, "Connor, time to go." The sylveon stubborn remained just where she stood. One problem with highly powerful pokemon--they generally didn't move when they didn't want to, and this one had his arm captive. Lovely. She wanted to make friends. He rolled his eyes. "What?"

Connor hummed and prodded at the wrist she clung to--clasped there was a pokeball cuff. Pinned to it was the rest of his eeveelution 'set', all of which were her offspring that the breeder couldn't bear to part with when he was early in his career. Of course, the proud mama liked showing off her children as much as possible, especially to people who might be curious about them.

"No."

"Sylveeeeooooon," Connor whined.

It was like arguing with a toddler.

Poor Aria just happened to lay witness to the all too common exchange.

"Ahhh, I see!" Aria had been right after all. It was an evolution of Eevee. She made a mental note of the name, knowing that she still had two Eevee back at the hotel room that haven't evolved yet. There were already so many options and now, another one. Maybe she'd ask Vex about it when she got back. She fought back the urge to bombard this trainer with questions, only because he seemed very anxious to get out of there. He did say it was time to go, after all.

Aria couldn't help but giggle a little bit. These two were quite the pair. Here he was, already annoyed at her and just wanting to keep moving along, and there she was, practically holding him in place with one simple ribbon. She could tell the two of them have been friends for a long time. What would happen next though, she wondered? Would he give in to her childish plea or would he insist and make her obey? She watched them go back and forth for a moment, amused.

"I'm actually headed back to town anyway. We can walk together if you'd like? That way you get back to whatever it was you were doing and she gets what she wants?" Aria offered, knowing it was a bit bold but choosing to try anyway. Maybe if they were at least on the move, he'd be open to some conversation and she could ask him for more details. One of her Eevee was almost ready, so she'd have to make a final decision soon. If he declined, she'd ask Vex about it later.

ooc// She so needs to meet Connor's brood of eeveelution babies~

Bic//

Adrian wanted to tell her that he wasn't going into town, that he was just fine not having a conversation with a stranger, but Connor was already making decisions for him. Perking up at the idea of her trainer making new friends (and the chance to wheedle him into showing off her precious brood), the sylveon cheered and wrapped a ribbon around Aria's wrist. She then pranced off towards the boardwalk, trying to drag her hapless captives behind.

The deceptively delicate pokemon was fully capable of picking them both up if she wanted, but she was being nice and just leading them along.

He cast a long suffering look at his current companion, "Apparently she likes the idea of going for walk into town."

(OOC: Haha sounds good to me! Let's work it in!)

Before he could answer, his Sylveon took hold of Aria's wrist as well and turned towards the boardwalk. She giggled, feeling the soft silky-like ribbon against her wrist. The cat-like pokémon really had some strength to it though, Aria could tell right away that if she really wanted to hurt them, she could. There was something gentle about her though, and Aria found it rather calming. A cool salty breeze came off the water as they walked, and Aria couldn't help but smile.

Adrian didn't seem too thrilled about having to walk along, but he didn't fight his pokémon either. Aria made sure Arashi was still tagging along, and he was directly to her left on her other side. She began thinking of how she could work in a question about Eevee's and their evolutions, hopefully getting a conversation to strike up in the process. It was quiet for just a moment before she spoke up. "If you don't mind me asking, how does she evolve from Eevee? I mean," she cleared her throat, a touch nervous, "how do you get her versus the others?" she specified.

Feeling like she needed to justify herself for some reason, she continued. "I have come a long way since moving to Eden but I'm still learning. I'm originally from Kanto, so for the longest time I really only knew about Eevee's fire, water, and electric evolutions. I only recently learned about the dark, psychic, ice, and grass-type versions. Now there's more?" she asked, innocently. She really hoped she wasn't being a bother. Her curiosity often got in the way of her manners, and sometimes she didn't quite pick up on body language that suggested she needed to stop asking questions.

This was a common question to hear. How did sylveon evolve? When it first happened, Adrian didn't know himself. It wasn't until later that he understood exactly what was going on, and why his affectionate little spitfire didn't change into an espeon or umbreon. Out of habit, he found himself answering, "Sylveon are fairy types. They're not especially common evolutions simply because the nature of their evolution is similar their psychic and dark counterparts. The best I can describe it is...unity. You need to have a deep unity with your eevee. Some would call it love, but it's more harmonious than that."

For all their differences, he and Connor were remarkably similar. Like two sides of the same coin, difference on the surface, but the same at their core. They were competitive, hard-working and nurturing. She thrived on motherhood and tending to younger pokemon. Adrian discovered his path as a breeder because caring for eggs and baby pokemon filled a need to care for something. They weren't just friends. Connor wasn't just a companion. She was a small piece of his soul. Most pokemon could adjust to being traded, forming new bonds with new trainers. Adrian knew that if he was separated from Connor, the sylveon would despair, destroyed by the betrayal. And he would ache for her loss in his life. They were close. Sometimes not even needing words for her to understand what he wanted her to do in a battle. Her hurts pained him. Her sadness bled him. When he suffered, she grieved, doing everything in her power to mend the storm inside.

It was a bond he couldn't form words to fully describe.

"Though how one forms that unity varies, I believe..." Adrian said, rolling his shoulders, at ease in his own mask of professionalism. He didn't quite want to admit that he won over his eevee's absolute adoration by pampering her with near constant attention, plying her with sweets and well...rescuing her from her former 'owner'. Connor chirped and gave his wrist a pull, snapping him from his inner thoughts. "Connor...no. Not right now."

Perhaps stubborn was a good trait to add the ones they shared.

If Aria were to look closely at the wrist the sylveon yanked along, she would be able to see the markings on the pokeball cuff he wore. The one that held his eeveelutions. On the surface of the plastic were tiny, printed graphics of all the eeveelutions, and their respective pokeballs were clipped at the bottom of the portraits. The pictures weren't easy to see unless you were close and the light was just right.

It was a little difficult for Aria to focus on Adrian's words with the cute little Sylveon tugging at her wrist, but when the word 'unity' was used, her attention was captured. It was about more than affection and happiness apparently. It was about a much deeper bond with your Eevee. It sounded like the connection you needed to have was pretty rare, not a lot of people ever find that connection with each other let alone their pokémon. As she listened intently to Adrian's words, her mind drifted to the two Eevee she had. She hadn't spent much time with them or gotten to know them very well yet, and that made her frown.

"Wow. That sounds... very special. I'm very happy for you both!" Aria replied, giving the ribbon around her wrist a little squeeze. She imagined that Arashi and her shared that deep of a bond, but he wasn't a fan of showing it in public like this Sylveon was. Aria couldn't help but glance down at her little yellow Pikachu as he trotted in the sand by her side. His ears gave a twitch, knowing he was being looked at but choosing not to return her gaze. She smirked, knowing how much he cared about her even if he never showed it.

A slight shift in pressure around her wrist drew her attention back to Adrian and his pokémon. The Sylveon was tugging at his wrist, and he had shushed her. What was that about? She chose not to inquire about it, but a reflective surface on his wrist caught her attention. "Oh, that looks neat, what is it?" she asked, innocently. It looked like there were little pokéballs attached to the cuff on his wrist. She couldn't tell from this far away, but clearly the Sylveon wanted her to notice them.

Adrian grunted. He pointedly looked away to avoid showing the mild embarassment he felt. However, his attention was drawn back to Aria when she pointed out the very thing Connor was determined to show off. For the love of Arceus! He shot the sylveon a scowl and her responding smirk was triumphant. Whatever. If she wanted to show off her brood, then so be it. He wasn't going to get away without bending to her whims this time. He flexed his hand, "It's a custom pokeball cuff. Keeps me organized."

Pulling his arm closer to his chest (which Connor allowed), he examined the little portraits himself. If he was going to do this, he was better off being the one choosing who joined them. Otherwise Connor might unleash all of them and cause chaos. Well, for him at any rate. The eeveelutions never strayed far, but found it grand fun to harass Adrian if their mother goaded them into mischief.

"I have one of every currently known eeveelution," he said. "And the reason that Connor is so keen on bringing attention to them, is that they're her offspring. She's quite proud of them."

He plucked off the pokeball clipped to the espeon portrait and released its inhabitant onto the sandy stretch ahead of them. Maya emerged from the red light perfectly poised, her forked tail curled about her paws with stony elegance. One could mistake her for a statue if not for the life in her gemstone eyes. Connor, thrilled to have her demands met, chirped a giddy greeting to her daughter. Maya's tail flicked and she cooed a reply, rising to pad close to the sylveon and her captives.

"This is Maya. She was the first of Connor's offspring to evolve."

And at a young age too. He was amazed by how quickly the empathetic eevee bonded to him, evolving mere weeks after emerging from her shell. Those too-knowing eyes shifted to Aria. Her stare intense and unyielding. It dared the girl to look away first. The way she held herself signally that she held a similar base of strength as her mother, though she was far less physical about proving it.

Her new acquaintance explained that the painted portraits on his cuff were to differentiate each pokémon and their respective pokéballs. Did he really have every single Eevee evolution? Aria attempted to count the pokéballs but Adrian seemed a little shy about it and pulled the cuff to his chest. He stared at them, and she assumed he was looking for one in particular. He examined them all then then explained that he did, in fact, have every Eevee evolution, and that they were all Connor's offspring. Aria couldn't help but be impressed. She was sure it had to take a lot of time and effort to raise them all.

He pulled one of the pokéballs off his cuff and released the pokémon inside. Before them, on the beach, appeared a beautiful, light-purple shaded pokémon. It resembled the same body shape as the Sylveon only with shorter fur, a forked tail, and much simpler. There were no ribbons or bows, instead there were large ears, whiskers, and a single red gem on its forehead. Dark blue-ish purple eyes stared back at them, and seemed to glitter when its mother, the Sylveon, chirped at her. "Wow! She's beautiful!" Aria complimented, and as much as she liked the Sylveon so far, this version really caught her attention. She made a mental note to research this version a little more.

"Nice to meet you Maya!" Aria added, and introduced herself. "My name is Aria, and this is my pokémon Arashi." After offering a kind smile, Aria turned to look towards Adrian once more. "She's an Espeon, right? I think this is the version I had originally had in mind for one of mine, but I haven't even begun to get to know them yet." Aria explained, with a frown. She wanted to give a much more detailed explanation so that it didn't seem like she was neglecting them, but she chose to wait. She was just so busy nowadays and giving the pair of Eevee the time and attention they needed was going to take a decent effort on Aria's part. Also, she was sure this guy didn't want to hear all about her life story anyway.

Arashi, who had been quiet and pretty much hiding behind his trainer, trotted forward. He hopped over the sand and came to a stop a few feet from the Espeon. "Pika pika!" he stated, and Aria instantly grew concerned. Her eyebrows furrowed as she wondered what on earth he was up to. ~You are so stunning!~ he told the Espeon, in a raspy voice. Aria watched as he scratched his head awkwardly, and she laughed. It had been some time since she saw Arashi get mesmerized by a beautiful pokémon. "Arashi, come now. Leave her be." Aria ordered, giggling. Arashi did as he was told, and trotted back to behind his trainer.

"Sorry, he normally keeps to himself unless he's saving me from danger," she explained, with sarcastic emphasis on the word "saving." She rolled her eyes and continued, "It seems he's a little overwhelmed by her beauty." She shot a glance down behind her, and Arashi turned away and hid his face behind her leg, embarrassed. She shook her head, and made a mental note to tease him about this later. Perhaps an Espeon in her team wasn't going to be a good idea after all, not if her main pokémon was going to be distracted constantly. She was quite pretty, Aria had to admit it though.
