Technically, it wasn't safe to walk home alone at night, but the woman wasn't worried. Or, if she was, it didn't seem like it. With her purple scarf proudly on display, most thugs veered in the opposite direction of where she walked. Nightshade wasn't to be trifled with, and it offered her a certain tranquility when she walked from one place to another. Steel colored eyes kept her aware of her vicinity, of course.

Just because she should be safe didn't means he had any intention of letting her guard down.

She truly should have Amethyst http://i.imgur.com/WNpEgf9.png broken in for flight, but while he was obedient she wasn't certain how to go about forcing him to allow her to steer him in the direction she wanted to go. The key part would be figuring out the best form of communication. At the moment, she wasn't quite sure what that would be. At her side, Liseran http://i.imgur.com/WNpEgf9.png padded along. He wasn't yet at the level of strength she wanted him to be, either, and there was only so much she could do to get him stronger without going out of her way. She glanced down at the silver fox as he padded along, unsure of the best solution. Was she doing everything right?

Night was the best time to hunt. There were far fewer people around that would try to battle or capture her. So she slept the day away tucked into a makeshift den she'd made in the leftover odds and ends of some empty old warehouse. It was sheltered from the weather and shielded from the curious eyes of humans. She stirred as night began to fall, yawning and stretching as she made her way from her comfortable sleeping spot. The area around the warehouse had been long abandoned by the humans who used to work there. Several other pokemon had made their homes in the area including several other Houndour and even a pair of Houndoom who mostly kept to themselves. A few Rattata scurried out of her way as she passed, most terrified she would eat them whole if they bothered her. She wouldn't. Rattata didn't taste good at all though they would suffice if she was particularly hungry.

But no, tonight she was more interested in seeing if any of her favorite spots had any tasty morsels to eat. Not many other pokemon knew about her favorite haunts which meant she could have all the best bits to herself without needing to fight for it. With a canine grin on her features, she trotted from the safety of the old industrial distinct and into the city itself. She was just about at the first of her spots when she saw something she'd never seen there before: a human. And a pokemon too. Some small furry thing that looked to be about half her size. She could probably take it out with a few hits if she wanted to. But why? It didn't seem interested in the food smells coming from one of the nearby shops that she frequented and the human wasn't paying her any attention. Still, she wouldn't get too close. For now she'd hang back and wait for them to turn the corner before she approached the door of the shop to see if the human who usually gave her things to eat was inside.

Verity would have just gone on her way, completely oblivious to the creature, but Liseran was new and everything was both exciting and a threat. The fox stopped in his tracks, sniffing the air before letting out a yip - or was it a bark? It was difficult for the woman to tell, especially considering these things had never mattered to her before. Still, she stopped midstep to turn and look back at the silver fox.

"Liseran? What is it?"

There was a hint of annoyance in her voice, and the silver fennekin stopped immediately, looking up at her with sad red eyes and lowering ears. The tamed pokemon looked back in the direction of the strange scent, unsure of the source, before looking back over to his trainer. If the houndour wanted to, it could probably easily escape notice.

There was a subtle shift in the breeze and the Houndour was no longer standing downwind of the fox and it's human. If she was lucky her scent would mingle with that of the people who'd passed by this way during the day and the scents wafting from the various shops. But she was not so lucky. She gave a small growl when the little fluff paused and alerted its human. Maybe it wanted food. The shop did have some tasty stuff, after all.

She stayed put, partially hidden in the empty doorway of a shop that closed early. The fox's gaze trailed toward her but he didn't seem to notice her. Good, she didn't want to deal with the fluffy little scrap. She just wanted him to keep moving so she could get something to eat. Well...maybe a little 'encouragement' was in order. From her spot up near the building, she lifted her head and Howled, hoping to spook the trainer and her pokemon so they'd go away.

Verity blinked once at the howl, turning her cold gaze from the silver fennekin towards the source of the noise. "Ah. I see." She said, "Don't bother with that, Liseran, it's just some stray." The fennekin could get flees if it associated with the wrong company. Of course, if it had a pack with them, she might be forced to use Amethyst. He might be inexperienced in fighting, but a massive flying lizard with a penchant for bloodthirst was still just that at the end of the day.

Liseran, on the other hand, seemed far less comforted.

Withholding a sigh, Verity looked out coldly towards the source of the noise. "You, there. Houndour? Houndoom? What is it you want?" She called, unphased by the show of strength until she could lay her eyes on the beast herself.

They didn't leave. Though the fox pokemon seemed nervous he didn't run off from the human's side and the human didn't seem to care what might be lurking in the shadows. Most trained pokemon would skitter away and their humans would chase after them. Any time she'd needed to scare away a human that had been her trick. This time it didn't work and she was out of options aside from battling them. Which she also didn't really want to do. Battling might mean an injury and if she was injured some other pokemon might muscle her out of her warm and cozy den, leaving her to wander the streets to find a new one. No, she was smarter than that. She just had to figure something else out.

She perked her ears when the human spoke, apparently addressing her. What did she want? She wanted food. She was pretty sure the guy who saved scraps for her was in there right now, looking out the window waiting for her to start nosing around for 'yum yums'. And the only way she could get there was for the human and her little pet to leave. But how was she to convey this to the human? Humans didn't understand pokemon. Well, she had nothing left to do but to try right?

She stepped out of the doorway, head down and teeth bared, trying to look as intimidating as possible. She was in good shape, not skinny or injured, she could obviously take care of herself. She flicked her eyes to the shop, trying to show that was all she was after.

Verity did not seem surprised when the houndour did in fact show itself. What else could it do? Even hungry, pokemon were typically smarter than most people took them for. Even working in the black market, Verity had never deluded herself from this fact. It could cower and hide, but it recognized that it wouldn't do it much good.

She followed the creature's line of sight to the building that she knew to sell food. "Ah. A beggar then." She said calmly, glancing at the creature. "That, or the owner's pet?" She asked, letting her eyes move over the creature's body. It seemed healthy, but dirty. She doubted it was any kind of pet someone would acknowledge.

It wouldn't take much to make it more appealing to someone, however. Hardly any recognizable work at all, in fact. "Aren't you tired of begging for scraps? You could be well fed with a human partner." She asked, letting the question hang in the air.

Houndour huffed and growled at the idea of being a 'pet' to some human. She'd seen the 'pets' some people carted about, poncy little bits of fluff that yapped and growled but didn't have an ounce of street smarts. Pampered and fussed over by humans who didn't seem to know how a proper pokemon should behave. Once, when she was a much younger pup, she might have thought that sort of life looked appealing. But she enjoyed her freedom to roam where she liked and to act how she saw fit. She didn't need some pampering human to 'care' for her.

The human continued however and Houndour let her guard down some. A partner? Not an owner, not some caregiver who wanted her as a pet but a human partner. That she had considered as she watched the humans who called themselves trainers. Some seemed capable enough but none had really given her the impression that they were worth giving up her freedom for. She had seen one awhile back that had looked promising but he already had a Houndour and she was not willing to share. If she chose to go with a human she wanted to be their first, and perhaps only, Houndour. She sat, head tilted in an expression of mild interest. She supposed she might as well hear the human out since she didn't seem to want to leave.

It would have been easier had the houndour made good on its show and tried to attack her. Liseran would not have been much help, but Amethyst would likely not have had trouble in subduing the mongrel. Verity maintained her composure as she watched the dog seem to relax. There was a very, very clear denial of the owner of the bakery's ownership. All the better; there would be less mess if Verity did decide to capture the creature.

Of course, it wasn't purple, so she herself did not want one.

It seemed, however, like talking was at least a route worth trying. She did hope she wasn't wrong, and simply wasting her time. Liseran sat, unsure, beside her while she chose her words. "I know someone who might want a houndour," She said flatly. No one specific had actually come to mind, and yet the houndour was a popular specimen among Nightshade. She was sure she could find a proper fit. "You would be well taken care of, provided you are strong enough to be worth the effort."

She knew someone who wanted a Houndour? That didn't sound right but she supposed it wasn't a terrible idea. None of the humans she'd found on her own had been worth her time. So maybe having this human help her find the right one wasn't such a terrible idea. But did she really want to give up her freedom for a maybe? She wasn't so sure.

Of course, then the woman had to go and imply she wasn't good enough for a human. That she wasn't strong enough. Immediately she got back to her paws, barking a challenge at the fluffy fox. If she had to prove that she was strong she'd do it! She would have attacked immediately but she opted to leave her opponent time to step away from the human. It wouldn't do her any good to anger the woman by getting her hurt by initiating a battle right at her feet.

Verity was surprised by the switch in the way this had gone, knowing full and well that if she had said something wrong there was no way to know. She frowned when she realized that the houndour was waiting, as if giving her a chance to step back or ushering Liseran to step forward. The fennec fox almost did so, before she swiped a hand in front of herself as if to draw a line he dared not cross. She turned cold grey eyes to the dark dog, considering her options.

The honorable thing to do might have been to let the fire fox or a different pokemon of hers to begin the battle on somewhat equal footing. Verity had long ago given up on such a concept as being honorable for the sake of it, however. Her reasonings for capturing the houndour were far from kind.

Slowly, she reached for one of many purple pokeballs, stepping backward and allowing Liseran to trail along by her side before she unleashed Amethyst. The Aerodactyl let out a series of gurgles as he opened his eyes, tail lashing the air just in front of Verity's face and blowing the hair back over her shoulder. "If you would rather just submit, I would not fault you." She said, not even intending to goad the wild fire type. Her voice was chilled as ice and flat in tone as the dinosaur tilted his head to get a better look at his prey.

What...was that thing? Houndour considered herself to be a strong and brave pokemon for as young as she was, but the thing before her now was something she'd never seen before. And the way it glared at her...if ever she were to run from a battle it would be this one.

But if she wanted to have any chance at finding a suitable human she needed to do this. She needed to prove she wasn't afraid. She growled at the comment that she could back down. No. She couldn't. She was strong. She was brave. She would show this woman she was worth it and she would fight this strange beast with everything she had.

But, she could use the woman's comment to her advantage. She hung her head, looking dejected as she whined and edged forward. She eyed the monster she was to fight and it didn't take much pretending to look afraid. But just when it looked like she was giving in, she darted forward the last few pawsteps to land a blow on the closest part of the creature she could reach.

For what it was worth, it spoke well of the houndour that it stood its ground despite obvious fear. A smile tugged faintly at the corners of Verity's lips as she watched the creature growl. She could almost like this one, but she would not keep it. Too many pokemon were already left behind at her home when she left.

"Very well," She said as the houndour clashed against the Aerodactyl's leg. "Do not maim this one, Amethyst. Dragonbreath." The large dinosaur let out a rippling growl as it turned one eye down on the dog. His claws itched to grab the dog and drop it from above, but something about the cold tone in Verity's voice kept him from doing so. With a screech, the aerodactyl turned to face the houndour and exhaled a blue and black mist of draconic energy.

Her hit struck but didn't seem to phase her larger opponent much...aside from annoying it if the look it was giving her was any indication. She didn't have time to try and dodge the mist expelled from the creature's jaws and it enveloped her in stinging energy. She shook herself and growled, unhappy with the way things were going. But she still wasn't going to give up.

Unsure of what she was up against and what might be effective against her opponent, Houndour could only keep trying until she found something that worked. Without backing away, she coughed up a plume of toxic gasses aimed right at the creature's open jaws. Maybe she'd get lucky and poison it.

Houndour used Smog!
