There were a lot of pokemon Jace was interested in but none fascinated him more than the elusive Feebas. Granted, Feebas itself was only slightly more useful in battle than a Magikarp, but, like magikarp, once it evolved it was a force to be reckoned with. But it was the method of evolution that intrigued him the most. It didn't require a stone or lots of battles. As Jace understood it, the Feebas needed to feel beautiful in order to evolve. It was a strange concept and Jace wanted to see it first hand to find out if it was true.

But first, he had to find a Feebas. For a pokemon that was so widely unpopular, they were notoriously hard to find in the wild and very few breeders had them available. Since he had heard Feebas could be found in Garland City, Jace decided to take the long trip there from Hibiscus Beach. With a recent rescue of a young Lapras (and the subsequent failed attempt to return her to her pod) Jace had decided he needed a bit of time away from the ocean anyway. Making a brief stop in Wisteria Town for the Harvest Festival had proved a welcome distraction from his travels and his worries over how Mipha would ultimately handle being rejected by her pod.

So far, Mipha seemed fine and Jace was happy that the young Lapras didn't seem overly bothered by how things had turned out. Now, with the glittering canals of Garland City laid out before him, Jace was eager to explore. Saia was still sulking after her defeat in the Amaranth Forest and had retreated to her pokeball for the time being, so Jace opted to have some of his other pokemon out to enjoy the scenery. Mipha http://i.imgur.com/WNpEgf9.png was released into the canal, Skipper http://i.imgur.com/3GWps2U.png and Taggerung http://i.imgur.com/WNpEgf9.png joined her a second later before Jace himself jumped the barrier and splashed into the water next to them (much to the horror of a pair of old ladies nearby who scolded him loudly). Jace ignored them and climbed up onto Mipha's back. "Alright! Let's see what we can find shall we?" He told his trio of pokemon and they set off with no destination in mind but every hope of finding something interesting to start their adventure in Garland City!

Mmm, yep! This should do just fine! she thought to herself. Roselia thought to herself as she sifted through a bed of roses. Delicate and pristine roses of all colors were spread out in carefully laid patterns. Deep red roses blended into pink roses, and those blended into white roses. A blend of blue and purple roses lined the outside. All of them were perfectly spaced next to each other. She was working on the last few roses of the bottom right corner, when a loud splashing sound rang out from behind her.

Before she could turn to look, soft droplets of water rained down upon her and her flowers. She gasped, taking in what just happened as the droplets dripped down her back. The cold water was a slight shock to her sun-warmed leaves. "Liiiiiiiiii!" she squealed angrily, and spun around to face the culprit. It was a human, who had dove into the canal. Several pokémon were around him, but she didn't care. She continued to scold the human for his inconsiderate behavior, waving her arms wildly.

Jace and his pokemon had not gone far when a commotion caused them all to stop. Skipper and Taggerung had been splashing playfully back and forth as they swam and apparently they'd upset a wild pokemon tending to a small garden. Jace wasn't sure if the Roselia was preparing to attack or just yelling at them for making too much noise or something but he didn't intend to stick around and find out. Giving Mipha a pat on the neck, he attempted to gently guide her away from the angry grass pokemon and leave it to whatever it had been doing.

Of course, his attempts to just ignore the wild pokemon were not meant to be. As if sensing the potential danger, one of the pokeballs in his pack gave a violent shudder and burst open. A flash of light escaped the pocket he had stored his pokeballs in and formed into a fluttering shape, hovering above the water between him and the Roselia. "Saia no, just leave it!" Jace called but too late, the Noibat had already sent supersonic sound waves toward her opponent with every intention of confusing the grass type before it could attack.

Saia used Supersonic

(It's fine, lol. I was going to have Jace use his Alolan Vulpix but flying types are good against grass too and Saia is only two credits away from a tier boost so I decided to use her instead. xD)

As she was running her little mouth, the human hollered something but she wasn't sure what. She couldn't hear him over the sound of her own scolding. Then, a strange sound came from one of the pokémon and suddenly the scene changed. The air and space between her and the human seemed to ripple, distortion her vision. The wave motion of her surroundings startled her and she clamped her eyes shut. A stark dizziness came over her suddenly, and she shook her head in an attempt to shake off the feeling. It did not work.

When she opened her eyes, she was surrounded by flying bats. Several Noibat flapped their wings around her, and she instantly began to panic. Where had they all come from?? She shot back with the first attack she could think of. In a quick motion of her arms, she shot out small thorns that were pricked with poison. However, the bats were fast and all over the place, and the thorns continuously missed. She swung her arms even faster, sending out as many as she could. The dizziness was just too much though, and after wildly swinging her arms she tumbled to the ground. She let out a cry of frustration.

Roselia is confused!
Roselia used Poison Sting!
She hurt herself in confusion...

Sometimes Jace wished Saia was just a little bit less protective. She was usually a pretty good judge of potential threats but there were times, like this one, where she flew into a a battle that was unnecessary. But now that she had attacked first, she was committed to this battle and recalling her wouldn't do him any good. And she did need a bit of a confidence boost after her defeat in the Amaranth Forest against that Spritzee. Perhaps an easy battle like this one would get her to stop sulking so much. He missed having her flitting about overhead or clinging to his bag and watching over his shoulder.

Lost in thought, Jace almost fell from Mipha's back as she dodged to one side to avoid a spray of needle-like thorns. Apparently Saia's supersonic had been effective as the Roselia fell flat on it's face with a cry. Saia had flown up above the Roselia, well out of the way of the thorns, and opened her mouth to swoop down and bite her opponent. "Saia wait! Keep your distance. Use Air Cutter." Jace called and the Noibat glanced at him. She almost considered ignoring his orders but attacking blindly had been part of what got her defeated by that stupid fairy. With a squeak, she gave a nod and flapped her wings to form an X shaped 'blade' of wind which she directed at the Roselia.

Saia used Air Cutter

Not sure if not being hit because the opponent is confused and hurts itself counts as a dodge or not? I'm going to assume no because in the games the attack is just never actually launched so no damage is done, lol. If you'd prefer for me to count it as a dodge I can do that as well. I don't mind either way. =)

There was some more commotion around her. The human was shouting another order at his pokémon, which meant another attack was on the way. Roselia lifted her head, but couldn't find the Noibat anywhere now. Where did they all go? What had even happened? She took advantage of this moment and climbed to her feet. The dizziness remained, but as long as she didn't fling her arms around wildly again she should be fine.

The sound of flapping wings echoed above her and she realized the Noibat was flying directly over her. She was able to glance up, just as a sharp wind cut through the air and hit her. The force sent her body tumbling backwards, and a sharp pain dug into her organic body. She felt as if she was cut into pieces. A loud cry escaped her lips as she landed. Her world continued to spin and it was very hard for her to get her bearings, so she stayed on the ground.

Focusing on the earth beneath her, she closed her eyes. The dizziness wasn't nearly as bad with her eyes closed. She spread her arms to either side of her and whispered to the soil below. The earth heard her plea and offered some of its energy. It wasn't much, but it was enough to keep her from fainting. However, she wouldn't be able to take another hit like that. Now that she had a little more strength, she opened her eyes and climbed back to her feet.

Roselia is confused!
Roselia used Synthesis!

Jaisen Aurelius
(OOC: Haha no no, I hadn't expected it to be "dodged," it was more for flavor and to show she was confused. This is just fine! ^.^ I'm not sure how healing in battle works, but she only gets about 1/4 back according to Bulbapedia, so one more hit should do the trick I think?)

Saia's attack hit head on and the Noibat squeaked as her opponent stayed down. Except that something seemed off. There was a soft glow and the Roselia got back to it's feet, looking somewhat refreshed. She gave an indignant little hiss and glanced at Jace as if to ask 'what now'.

Jace, of course, had expected Synthesis or something similar. Grass types had an array of healing moves that made battling them a pain. But he could tell this one was still weak and another good hit or two would take it down. He hated the thought of battling pokemon until they were incapable of getting back up but he had no idea what he would do with a Roselia. Plus, this one definitely seemed to dislike him. Trying to catch it and work with it if it hated him was more trouble than it was worth. He had his hands full with Saia and Eizen already. "One more time Saia, use Air Cutter." The Noibat didn't hesitate to repeat her previous attack and aim it at the grass type.

It was clear she wasn't going to win this fight. All she meant to do was defend her roses, that's all. But she knew she had a short temper, and she knew she had trouble controlling it. Again, she had let her temper get the best of her and now she was on the losing side of a battle. She was weak, even with the healing power of the earth beneath her feet.

The flapping of her opponent's wings echoed above her. She closed her eyes and focused on the ground once more. Whispers escaped her lips as she pleaded for more help, but it was too late. Her opponent struck again, and a sharp cutting wind came down upon her, shoving her to the ground. Pain shot over her again, pinning her to the ground. Her world was spinning, and this time she closed her eyes and kept them close. She wanted nothing to do with the human or his pokémon any longer. After a deep breath and an even longer exhale, she fainted.

The wild Roselia fainted!
