Although, Lysbeth had never actually been to the Agave Desert. It was by reputation and from her reading material, a flat barren landscape stretching for miles and miles with a single highway cutting through the middle - literally cooking in the heat.

Alongside the road, you’d be likely to find oddly shaped cactus, rough desert brush and maybe a dune of sand spiraling down into the unseen depths below. Lysbeth had decided against her better judgment perhaps to go exploring... in the middle of the day at peak time for the optimal sun rays. She had already ditched her cloak, throwing it over the top of the overfilled backpack, filled with water bottles and snacks – packed ever so kindly by her assistant, Verity. A girl who described herself as optimistic but lacking in talent.

As she slowly walked, Lysbeth drew long sips from a water bottle, whilst looking down the endless stretch of asphalt. Unfortunately seeing nothing other than more cacti, more sand, and more desert… “Ugh. This Desert just goes on fooooreeeeveeeerr!

WHY AM I DOING THIS!” she shouted, more at herself than for the benefit of anyone around. If there was anyone around, of course.

What another gorgeous day! The sun was shining and the heat was near its highest. Diglett was tunneling his way back to his home, staying nice and cool in the desert dirt underneath the sand and rock. Some commotion from the surface caught his attention, and he stopped to listen. There was a voice, soft at first but then very loud. It sounded somewhat distressed. He turned to continue along his way, but something told him he should stop and check things out. What if whatever it was needed help? What if it was luring in its prey? He pondered for just a moment before deciding to surface and at least peek.

As his round bald head poked through the sandy surface, he looked around cautiously. Nothing this way... nothing that way... oh! Directly behind him, a human stood tall facing away from him. He was directly behind her feet. His heart raced and his fight or flight response kicked in. In a panic, he kicked up some sand at the human, hoping to make an escape. "Digleeeeeeett!" he roared.

Lysbeth continued walking down the seemingly endless stretch, bent back, arms dragging and letting out a mix of sighs and anger. She was trying to not blame her assistant for all of this, but the hotter she grew, the more difficult this became…

It had been Verity’s idea for her to hike the route, she had made it sound fun, an adventure. This wasn’t any of those things, it was just a pain. The furious sunbeams continued to beam down upon the girl, warming her with its fiery glow.

And then. Out of nowhere, a spray of sand shot up from the dunes of the desert. Lysbeth fell back, her eyes burning with the coarse sand. She let out a low growl of anger, unclear on what had caused the sand stream nor where it had come from.“Grr… what was that?”

The only thing she could hear was a loud noise of some undefined Pokémon nearby. Without thinking, Lysbeth threw out a Pokeball from a pocket. In a beam of shimmering white light, a Pokemon appeared. It erupted out and extended into the massive form of a snake built from a combination of steel and rock. “Steeeeeel!” The Steelix roared in reply to the Pokémon.

Hah! Diglett celebrated his small victory. The human was so caught off guard it fell to the ground! He knew he wasn't that strong, but perhaps the element of surprise was his advantage. Ducking his head lower into the ground, he waited and listened. Maybe the human wouldn't see him and he could sneak away unnoticed. Just as he thought he was safe to scurry off, a bright flash lit up the area.

A roar so loud it shook the very earth he was buried in echoed for miles. Before him, a very large pokémon stretched out. Huge rocks made up his long body, and sharp black eyes peered down at him from up high. Diglett suddenly felt microscopic. He froze, trembling with fear. His mind told him to run but his body wouldn't move. Even if he wanted to attack, he was almost positive he'd barely cause a scratch on this massive creature.
